    Uruguay 1-0 Saudi Arabia

    Stephen Warnock
Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

I am surprised by how Uruguay are playing. They could pass the ball around at the back for the last five minutes as there is no pressure from Saudi Arabia at all. They are not pressing, just standing.

    Two minutes to go.

Luis Suarez scuffs a shot wide from outside the box.

    Saudi Arabia are heading home.

Antonio Rimero: This World Cup is quickly turning into the big boys not looking to expend any energy against perceived minnows. It’d be nice to see their complacency come back and bite them on the bum.

  4. 'I fancy Uruguay for the World Cup'published at 17:44 British Summer Time 20 June 2018

    Uruguay 1-0 Saudi Arabia

    Phil Neville
Former England & Man Utd defender on BBC One

Uruguay will be tough to beat in this tournament. They play with two banks of four, Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez are very good defenders, the full-backs, Guillermo Varela and Martin Caceres tuck in tight.

I do fancy them in this tournament, they've got a lot of good players with a lot of experience, and for a lot of them it could be their last chance at a World Cup.

    Uruguay 1-0 Saudi Arabia

The second is still not coming from Uruguay.

Edinson Cavani bulldozes his way through the centre of the Saudi Arabia backline and forces goalkeeper Mohammed Al Owais into a fine save low to his left.

    Stephen Warnock
Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Saudi Arabia are not going to get back in the game sitting so deep and not putting Uruguay under pressure at all.

I don't see it coming unless they are going to go for it in the last seven minutes.

Talking of Boca Juniors, their former player Rodrido Bentancur, now of Juventus, has made more passes (71) than any other team-mate.

The 20-year-old is an absolute baller.

This is a dire game and shocking World Cup, majority of goals from set-pieces and penalties. The amount of players in every game who can't pass the ball 10 yards to or in front of a teammate is mind boggling.

Uruguay can't get their teeth into this game. Maybe Luis Suarez can help them out?

    Inches away from the second.

Arsenal target Lucas Torreira darts in from the left and smacks a shot - which going way off target - but Edinson Cavani flicks a head onto it.

The ball wrong-foots goalkeeper Mohammed Al Owais, but luckily for Saudi, drifts just wide of the post.

Carlos Sanchez has another free-kick which skips all the way through the forest of legs to Martin Caceres at the back post, but the Uruguay defender's acrobatic effort is blocked by his own team-mate.

    Caceres was offside anyway.

  17. Watch: Sanchez heads over when well placedpublished at 17:34 British Summer Time 20 June 2018

    Uruguay 1-0 Saudi Arabia

It's been slim pickings in terms of goalmouth action in this game.

Carlos Sanchez should have doubled Uruguay's lead earlier in the half though.

Uruguay are tough to watch but they have a population of 3.5 million and have to compete with Argentina (43 million) and Brazil (209 million).

Saudi Arabia look like a team that love to keep possession in that middle third of the pitch. In terms of keeping possession and not doing anything with it - they might just be the best team in the competition.

  20. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 75 mins

    Change for the Saudis.
