France as we all know are something of a conundrum at World Cups. They've won it before, they've had in-house squabbles before and they arrive here with real hope.

They've been mean in getting here. Didier Deschamps' side only allowed their opponents 15 shots on target in reaching Russia - a joint record in European qualifiers alongside Spain.

Throw in two energetic midfielders in Paul Pogba and N'Golo Kante, and of course a stellar front three, and you have some side.

They will surely make an impact. Only six times in 14 World Cup appearances have France got out of their group. Surely this is number seven.

Sometime when you play the best team first, may they are not at their best, they've not been that great in their warm-up games.

It's a game where Australia can dig in, show spirit and catch them by surprise. That will be the outlook - survive the game, don't concede too many and move on.

It kind of shows Australia's growth in the game that they made one World Cup from 1934 to 2002 and have now qualified for four in a row.

They have only lost one of their last nine matches before today, so they clearly have some resistance about them.

They've hammered Czech Republic in a recent friendly too, with a 4-1 scoreline perhaps showing they know where the net is, even if their teamsheet doesn't scream the name of a top, top striker at you.

France manager Didier Deschamps has ditched the conventional 4-4-2 formation that served him so well in qualification instead deploying a fluid 4-3-3 that could yet even turn into a diamond. The big news is the big three. How will Australia contain Ousmane Dembele, Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe? Would anyone really want to swap places with any of the Australia defenders for this?

France XI:Lloris, Pavard, Varane, Umtiti, Hernandez, Tolisso, Pogba, Kante, Mbappe, Griezmann, Dembele

    Australia XIImage source, BBC Sport

Socceroos boss Bert van Marwijk led the Netherlands to the 2010 final against Spain but it's probably accurate to say he doesn't quite have the same array of talent at his disposal for this tournament.

There's a distinctly British flavour to his line-up, with Brighton's Mat Ryan, starting in goal, Aston Villa's Mile Jedinak accompanying Huddersfield's Aaron Mooy in midfield and Celtic's Tom Rogic just in advance of that pair.

Australia XI:Ryan, Risdon, Milligan, Sainsbury, Behich. Jedinak, Mooy, Leckie, Rogic, Kruse, Nabbout

I am at this game and am looking forward to it - Australia might not see much of the ball but they will be well organised, and will work hard and mix it physically too, or as much as they can do.

If you go through the France side, you would think they will win comfortably. I don't think it will be that easy, but they have got enough match-winners in their team for someone to make the difference when it matters once Australia start to tire.

Lawro predicts: France 2 Australia 0

Here's what Kylian Mbappe had to say about playing in a front three with Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele: "We are three players who appreciate each other.

"We put our egos on the side. There are not a lot of teams who have a better attacking line-up than us.

"We can bring some carefreeness, some joie de vivre in a competition where pressure is always weighing on the squad."

I'd appreciate playing with them too Kylian.

France start with a front three of Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele. We know Mbappe is worth £166m and Dembele £135m. Let's assume Griezmann is worth something similar and we have a front three worth around half a billion on show.

    This should be good.

No team in history has played as many qualifiers in one World Cup campaign as Australia.

And if you've battled that hard to get here, why start wilting now?

Their team has been announced and Mile Jedinak plays, as does Huddersfield's Aaron Mooy and Celtic's Tom Rogic. There had been question marks over Aston Villa's Jedinak but he gets the nod.
