Two of the favourites for this tournament - Brazil and world champions Germany - get their first taste of 2018 action on Sunday. Above is a tweet from Man City striker Gabriel Jesus, perhaps getting some last-minute advice from one of the few players you should be taking last-minute advice from.

There are three more group matches in total on Sunday. Here's your rundown:

Former Nigeria forward Peter Odemwingie told BBC Radio 5 live: "It's a disappointing result and performance, and we only had one effort on goal which was a looping header. Mikel needs to play deeper in the role he is used to with Chelsea and Iwobi needs to play in the middle.

"I understand the team selection in the first half but we should have changed it when we went 1-0 down. I don't expect to win the World Cup with this young squad but we can improve."

Very much an ICYMI.

• Croatia have won their opening game of a World Cup for the first time since their debut in the competition in 1998 (3-1 vs Jamaica).
• Nigeria have lost each of their last seven World Cup games when conceding the first goal.
• Croatia have now won both of their World Cup meetings with African opponents, by an aggregate score of 6-0.
• Croatia have scored in each of their last five World Cup games, their longest scoring streak in the competition.
• Nigeria have lost their last three World Cup games, their longest run since a run of four between 1998 and 2002.
• Croatia’s opening goals at each of the last two World Cups have been own goals -Marcelo in 2014 (Brazil) and Oghenekaro Etebo.
• Nigeria became the first team in World Cup history to concede two consecutive own goals in the competition, with their last goal shipped in 2014 also coming in this manner.
• Nigeria’s Odion Ighalo had the first shot on target in this match in the 59th minute - the longest wait for a first attempt on target in a World Cup match so far this tournament.

Croatia start with a real bang. Argentina await them, but Nigeria have to really win against Iceland. Croatia top the group and they played with more understanding and fluidity as the game went on. They are here for the long haul at this World Cup.

Not a great game - I think we can all agree with that.

But Croatia won't care a jot. The golden generation win their opening match of World Cup 2018.

It's always good when you win your first game at the World Cup because confidence is high. When you lose, as I've done before, it's horrible because you have to pick yourselves up.

Mateo Kovacic is put through, but his low shot is easily saved by Francis Uzoho - the Real Madrid midfielder was one-on-one!

We've already seen some late action at the World Cup, but I'll give you any odds for 2-2.

The levels of noise among the Nigeria fans rises again as both Kelechi Iheanacho and Victor Moses sees efforts blocked.

Skipper John Obi Mikel is replaced by Crotone striker Simy Nwankwo.

The final twist for Gernot Rohr.

Mario Mandzukic, who was involved in both goals, is off and is replaced by 22-year-old Juventus winger Marko Pjaca, who spent the latter half of last season on loan at Schalke.

Now Ivan Perisic is on the deck after the arm of Nigeria defender Abdullahi Shehu catches the Inter man.

He's OK though.

We're into the last six minutes of normal.

Croatia have grown in confidence as the game has worn on. Both teams started off at a blistering pace with a lot of blood and thunder but Croatia have got some skillful players and they have taken control of the game.

Would Nigeria take 2-0 now because it could be three of four?

The two Nigeria substitutes almost combine to punish Croatia.

Leicester's Kelechi Iheanacho motors down the left and squares the ball to Ahmed Musa, who is just about to shoot but sees his effort blocked by Ivan Strinic's brave tackle.

Both need treatment - that was crunching.
