    Sweden v Switzerland (15:00 BST)

    Alex Scott
Arsenal Ladies & former England international on BBC One

In tournament football you are together a lot of the time and you need that family environment to help you through the period.

Sweden play a solid 4-4-2 formation and no player goes off script. They are patient and they wait for their moment to win the ball back, and when one goes, they hunt in packs.

I feel like this one is going to be a chess match, which one is going to move first? I think I fancy Sweden because they are so tough to break down.

Not seen anyone really bigging this game up.

Could do with an early goal.

  3. 'He could be very special'published at 14:50 British Summer Time 3 July 2018

    Sweden v Switzerland (15:00 BST)

    Phil Neville
Former England & Man Utd defender in Russia

Manuel Akanji is very impressive for Switzerland. He is such a young lad, he has taken on the mantle for his side and he will have to do that again today. He is composed on the ball and he has two great feet. He reads the game very well and he is comfortable at bringing it out. I think he could be very special and he is equally good with and without the ball.

The Swiss boys have been putting away some tremendous finishes during their warm-up.

Absolute top corner, long-range efforts - with Xherdan Shaqiri particularly catching the eye.

  5. Chances of winning: Swedenpublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 3 July 2018

    Sweden v Switzerland (15:00 BST)

Simon Gleave, head of analysis, Gracenote Sports:

"Sweden were given 2% chance of winning the World Cup before and after the draw in December. However, the team's five pre-World Cup friendlies produced three draws and two defeats. This meant that Sweden's rating dropped and consequently the team's chance of winning the World Cup did too.

"Sweden's participation in the knockout phase remained in doubt until the 3-0 win against Mexico in the final group game. Given that almost every opponent in the knockout phase is more highly rated by Gracenote Sports than Sweden, the chance of the Swedish team lifting the Fifa World Cup on 15 July has only increased to 3%."

  6. 'I'd rather play Switzerland'published at 14:44 British Summer Time 3 July 2018

    Sweden v Switzerland (15:00 BST)

    Phil Neville
Former England & Man Utd defender in Russia

I think England would rather play Switzerland in the next round. Sweden are really well organised but Switzerland play a little bit more expansively, and I think that will suit us.

This will be Sweden's 50th World Cup game (W18, D13, L18). They will become the 11th team to reach that tally.

Only Mexico have featured in more games than the Swedes without winning the trophy.

    Jermaine Jenas
Former England midfielder on BBC One

Switzerland have lost one game in 25 which tells me that they are organised and they work hard for each other. They have scored five goals in the group stages, and it suggests they can also open you up at the other end.

Xherdan Shaqiri carries all the pressure for Switzerland. He is the creator and he has started the tournament very well.

You can bet he will run at people and he also likes being in little pockets of space. Give him space and time and he will pick out the pass.

The World Cup has peaked for me.

Not expecting great entertainment from this game. Shaqiri is the only catalyst on the pitch and he only does as much as he feels like. Reckon Sweden squeak it 1-0.

We know the Swiss are very competent, but we also know Sweden are not too exciting. We hope for an early goal so it does not fall into a stalemate type of game.

I don't think it will happen. I have a real belief that the Swiss and the Swedes will see this as an opportunity for a place in the quarter-finals and go for it.

Sweden are really well organised. The coach is getting a lot out of these players.

    "It's coming home."

As World Cup fever builds among England fans, that phrase has become something of a soundtrack to the tournament in Russia.

Having lifted the trophy in 1966, the Three Lions are the only previous winners in the bottom half of the draw, which is regarded as the easier route to the final in Moscow on 15 July.

Sweden, runners-up in 1958, are the only other team in that section to have reached the final, with Colombia, Switzerland, Croatia and hosts Russia looking to get there for the first time.

Russian fans were dancing on the streets of Moscow after their shock victory over Spain, but were they singing pridot domoy (it's coming home) too?

Afternoon from St Petersburg the clouds have finally lifted and we have blue skies after torrential rain earlier. It was mid winter this morning.

The winners of England v Colombia will play one of these two and if you think it’s been a while since England won a knockout game well it’s 24 years since Sweden managed that. While Switzerland, who are sixth in the world rankings, haven’t scored a goal at this stage since 1954. Something surely has to give.

As someone said to me yesterday this will surely be the most civilised game of the tournament, at least off the pitch. We’re expecting 10,000 Swedes to make the relatively short trip.

One request - please no extra time.

If red is the colour for you then you could be in for a tough afternoon.

There is an AWFUL lot of yellow around the place at the moment.

There is less than 500 miles between Sweden and St Petersburg and quite a few of the fans in yellow have obviously decided to make the journey.

This imposing stadium which boasts a capacity just north of 64,000 is slowly starting to fill as the minutes tick down to kick-off.

The very Mancunian skies of the morning (pre-heatwave, of course) have given way to some blue sky and we are all set-up for what one preview I read described as a "dour European tussle".

  18. Fans appeal against finespublished at 14:11 British Summer Time 3 July 2018

    Sweden v Switzerland (15:00 BST)

Switzerland fans started a crowdfunding appeal to pay the fines imposed on Granit Xhaka, Xherdan Shaqiri and Stephan Lichtsteiner for their 'double-headed eagle gesture' celebrations in the win over Serbia.

Xhaka and Shaqiri were fined 10,000 Swiss francs (£7,632) and Lichtsteiner was fined SFr5,000 (£3,816).

The appeal , externalraised more than $16,000 of its $25,000 target within 18 hours.

The gesture made by the players symbolises the Albanian flag, which carries the image of a double-headed eagle.

Xhaka and Shaqiri are ethnic Albanians from Kosovo, where a Serbian crackdown on the Albanian population ended with Nato military intervention in 1999.
