Simon Lowe: How am I supposed to concentrate during my exam whilst I am missing the game.?! Football is a cruel mistress.

Oli Busuttil: Gareth Southgate's faith in Raheem Sterling will come back to haunt him, he’ll need several chances before he takes one and I think we’ll struggle to create tonight.

Daniel Harris: Getting serious pre-match nerves now. 12 years without a knockout round victory will do that to you...

We thought it would be the team that started against Tunisia, and it must have been in Gareth's (Southgate) memory about how well they played in the first 20 minutes of that game.

Marcus Rashford had a chance to push his case for selection during the Belgium game but he didn't take his opportunity.

England look very strong but I wouldn't put it past Colombia to put up a good fight.

    Benjamin

What does Ashley Young bring to the table that Danny Rose doesn't? Am I missing something?? Young has less pace, keeps cutting inside to cross (giving the defence an extra second to get organised) and left wing back is Rose's more natural position.

    John, Bournemouth

There is a real camaraderie in this England squad. They all look like best mates. A lot of the older generation get annoyed when they see these players being pally during the season but it's why this England squad is one the nation can finally fully get behind.

    What of opponents Colombia?

They achieved their best-ever performance at a World Cup in 2014 by reaching the quarter-finals before losing to hosts Brazil. "We are a better team than four years ago," says goalkeeper David Ospina.

"We are together, more experienced and a stronger squad of players than we were in Brazil. Our players play in the best clubs, the best leagues, and are used to playing in matches of this size, so nothing will frighten us."

Gareth Southgate has confirmed that England will field the same starting 11 as began their first Group G game against Tunisia.

That means nine changes from the Belgium game, as England go with this:

Pickford; Walker, Stones, Maguire; Trippier, Henderson, Alli, Lingard, Young; Kane, Sterling

World cup 2018: Marouane Fellaini header completes Belgium comeback

The general view in the Colombian media after England were confirmed as their opponents in the last 16 was 'at least it wasn't Belgium'.

Colombia's expectations were always to get out of the group stage and try to emulate the achievements of four years ago by reaching the quarter-finals.

"England are the favourites," said former Aston Villa midfielder Carlos Sanchez. "They are the ones who invented the game and they also have some top-quality players."

That is the view still shared by most Colombians - England perhaps have the edge, but Colombia stand a good chance and the draw could have been far crueller.
