Both teams were nervous at the start. But then they settled, especially England. You could see it coming. What a goal it was.

Set pieces are proving crucial for England – they’ve got big lumps in there. What they’ve created in this tournament is a fear among opposing teams. That’s why Ashley Young is in the team, his delivery has been fantastic.

Sweden have never won a World Cup game in which they were trailing at HT, drawing twice and losing nine.

I just hope we don't regret these missed opportunities. They can’t deal with us from set pieces.

I don't believe what goes through Raheem Sterling's head at times. The first touch is brilliant but then he never seemed to get control of it. He could've rolled that to Harry Kane and that's why people criticise him. He gets into good positions but his decision making is not good enough at times.

    Sweden 0-1 England

The good news - England are 45 minutes away from the World Cup semi-final.

The bad news - it's a poor game and Raheem Sterling should have made it 2-0.

Another corner for England, who could have buried this game there.

Well it's almost like take two, watching a replay. His first touch is outstanding, the keeper in fairness does well - but Sterling takes far too long and gets crowded out.

Raheem Sterling should score again! Another simple ball round the corner frees him, he's got the legs of this defence. His touch is ace, he skips around the keeper but then tries a shot from a silly angle when a pass was on for Harry Kane.

Raheem Sterling was yards offside there, why didn't the linesman stick his flag up? He's getting everyone excited.

He should be putting them away. That will hurt his confidence.

Kofi: Can't wait to see Zlatan in an England shirt at Wembley and eating fish and chips at half time.

Paul: Looking forward to seeing a replay of the Eng goal. Was busy consoling my 2 year old who'd been terrified by the roar out of me

Sreejay: There's been a sense of inevitability since the start of this World Cup. Inexorably, England is getting there. I won't say where and jinx it, but YKWIM!

  14. CLOSE!published at 44 mins

    Sweden 0-1 England

Kieran Trippier goes direct to find Raheem Sterling breaking into the area, Victor Lindelof does really well though to shut him down.

And then must be! No! Sterling is threaded in after the best bit of football so far, he understandably looks a bit tentative and his shot is saved, but the flag goes up belatedly anyway. Wouldn't have counted.

It has been a good day for English sport already with Lewis Hamilton snatching pole position for tomorrow's British Grand Prix out of the hands of Formula 1 Championship leader.

But now the attentions of many at Silverstone have turned on to the events from Russia and England's World Cup quarter-final against Sweden.

This is the scene in the restricted-area paddock, which is normally buzzing with activity but now everyone, including numerous television crews, has stopped moving about and is just focused on the big screen.

Harry Maguire's header to put Gareth Southgate's side ahead gets a large cheer from the masses, but there is still a long way to go and still some nervous faces.

Sweden start to push a few men forwards, that opens up space for Raheem Sterling and he beats his man easily and puts a cross in, Dele Alli tries a little flick and it's well blocked.

Sterling went past his man so easily, time to put him out wide?
