Still something of a 'calm before the storm' feeling about central Moscow at the moment. The past two days have been public holidays, so quite a few locals have been relaxing at their country houses (dachas) out of town. Sadly for them, it's been pretty much grey skies and drizzle overhead.

It also has meant you can actually get around the city by car. The last time I was here it took two hours to drive about 20km.

But there are plenty of fans here already - the Mexicans probably edge it so far - and today is Russia Day. There'll be big celebrations in Red Square later. The weather's even getting better (slowly).

Gareth, Southampton: If it isn't a Holland, Croatia, Denmark, Soviet Union semi-final then I suggest serious foul play. Croatia to just beat the Dutch in the final.

Unfortunately, Gareth, the Netherlands and the Soviet Union went out in round one

  8. World Cup of kits - second-round drawpublished at 11:02 British Summer Time 12 June 2018

    #worldcupofkits

Here's the second-round ties, based on the results of the first round:

    • Jamaica 1998 v Spain 2010
    • Brazil 1970 v Republic of Ireland 1990
    • Paraguay 2002 v England 1966 (away)
    • Italy 1990 v Croatia 1998
    • Ghana 2014 v Colombia 1990 (away)
    • Chile 1998 v Denmark 1986
    • West Germany 1990 v Argentina 1986 (tie of the round!)
    • Wales 1958 v France 1982

That one starts at 11:30 BST

And for those wondering, the second-round ties are based on how the first-round draw came out. So winners of match one play winners of match two, etc.

  10. It's time...published at 11:00 British Summer Time 12 June 2018

The results are in and some big hitters have gone. (Teams to go through are in bold)

Netherlands 1978 went out to England 1966 (60.8-39.2%)

Iconic Peru 1978 were unfortunate to be against France 1982 and they’re gone (57.8% went for Les Bleus)

Scotland 1978 (43.2% against Colombia 1990 away) and Northern Ireland 1986 (39.3% against Ghana 2010) are out

USA 1994, very popular with some in the office and hated by others, lost to the Republic of Ireland 1990 (61.6% went for the Irish).

The biggest victory was Brazil 1970 against Senegal 2002 (away) – 85.7%

The tightest was Wales 1958 against Zaire 1974 (away) – that was 50.8-49.2%

That Nigeria shirt was so iconic, they brought out a similar one for this World Cup and it sold out almost immediately.

Three million people pre-ordered replica shirts, according to the Nigeria Football Federation, and shoppers queued outside Nike's flagship store in London on Friday to try to get their hands on the clothing.
