Liverpool continue to play their own game of pass the parcel at lightning speed as Palace shift all 10 outfield players from side to side to try and keep them out.

    Controversial Richard.

Roy didn't work for Liverpool, but you can't knock the work he has done at Palace.

Richard Browne: Roy Hodgson was the worst manager Liverpool ever appointed. No fan wanted him, nobody cared when he left. Palace survived because of Zaha last year, period.

Liverpool hunting in packs whenever Zaha gets the ball. Not given him a sniff yet.

The Reds dispossess the winger, switch play and Andrew Robertson charges forward before driving a low cross that Wayne Hennessey dives on.

Christian Benteke could be in for a long night. He is going to have to battle hard to salvage some pretty aimless long balls.

The first sent his way is headed away with minimum fuss by Virgil van Dijk, playing the perfect role of Benteke's shadow.

Liverpool never really took to Roy Hodgson. There are lots of subplots tonight - Mamadou Sakho against his old club as well - and I think Hodgson will feel he has a point to prove.

    Crystal Palace 0-0 Liverpool

The Liverpool defensive line is high. Like, in the Palace half high. The game is being played pretty much exclusively in the home side's half.

    Liverpool bossing possession. Unsurprisingly.

Last game of the 2017-18 season, Crystal Palace played WBA, formerly managed by Roy Hodgson and won 2-0. Last weekend, Palace played Fulham, formerly managed by Roy Hodgson and won 2-0. Tonight, Palace play Liverpool, formerly managed by Roy Hodgson......? Just saying, like...

Trent Alexander-Arnold looks to swing in a cross from the right. The young full-back is more than capable of something destructive, but the only thing he is destroying with that is potentially the teeth of someone sat in row Z.

Really good defending from Mamadou Sakho. As Mo Salah was released he tried to cut in on his left foot but Sakho stood up well and blocked the shot.

Oh, nearly a suicidal back-pass from James McArthur. Mohamed Salah is on the hunt but Mamadou Sakho is strong and wins his tackle.

Moments later, Salah is on the charge again, but after darting into the box he can't get his shot away.

Probably not a good idea to let Salah have space.

I'd love to see Palace get into the top 10 comfortably. Seven losses, no goals last season. For me Roy Hodgson should have got some recognition last season. Their confidence must be so high, this season it's like they have 10 points on the board already compared to last year.

Liverpool zip it around early doors before losing possession to Wilfried Zaha. Immediately the volume levels rise. The home favourite can't do anything meaningful with his first few touches, though.

    Good atmosphere.

Here come the teams out of the tunnel. Liverpool wearing grey, flecked with darker grey. Got an 80s feel about it. I like it.

Palace in your classic red and blue.

Liverpool's Sadio Mane has scored five goals in his seven league appearances against Palace, more than he has against any other side.

And if he doesn't get you, there's Salah and Firmino.

MHY: This is the best Liverpool squad that I remember seeing in a long time. We've actually got a bench that looks effective!

Haseeb: For the first time (maybe in 28 yrs) we have a strong Liverpool bench. All signs of the title winning season.

We need to talk about James Milner. The man is a machine.

He may well have found himself once again out of the starting XI at Liverpool this season with the arrival of some very healthy midfield competition.

So what does he do to ensure that is not the case? He runs a kilometre and a half further than anyone else on the Anfield pitch last weekend and sets up a goal.

'Drop me now if you dare'. Awesome.
