  1. Ings can only get better?published at 14:21 British Summer Time 9 August 2018

    Liverpool

It looks like Danny Ings will probably stay at Liverpool since no official bids have yet been made.

It’s no bad thing for the Reds really. Another solid backup option in attack. A player who gets on with his teammates, has the desire to do well and will give everything on the pitch.

Hopefully he stays injury free now…

The signing of a centre-half is an absolute must for Man Utd. Sadly, the current crop (Bailly aside) don't fill me with any confidence. All the great Utd teams of previous years built their teams around strong defences and the centre-half pairing is crucial to that. Teams are more confident of attacking play if they have a solid base.

  3. 'One down, more to come?'published at 14:19 British Summer Time 9 August 2018

    Cardiff City

Cardiff have secured a season-long loan deal for Real Betis midfielder Victor Camarasa and he looks a decent player in an area where we need to strengthen. I trust Neil Warnock's judgement and hopefully he can supply the ball to our strikers to score.

One down, hopefully a couple more still to come - particularly right-back cover, and another target man or attacking midfielder.

Three hours left of a transfer window which could end with just one senior centre-back left at Swansea. Granted loans can still happen and there are costs to cut, but this is just another indication of the mess the club has got itself into in recent years.

Victor Moses to Wolves?, external It's up there with the most bizarre rumours of the day so far.

Also scribbled on my notepad - and in no way verified - are Danny Rose to Schalke, Bernard and Mina to Everton, Yannick Bolasie to Burnley, James Ward-Prowse to Wolves and Jordan Ayew to Palace.

Still plenty of business that could be done. Could, should, will?

  6. 'No place for loyalty in the Premier League'published at 14:13 British Summer Time 9 August 2018

    Fulham

It looks like Sevilla goalkeeper Sergio Rico might be on the verge of joining Fulham on loan for the season. Obviously, he is a keeper with huge experience and pedigree, but I'm not sure I really see the sense in this move. We have already signed Fabri from Besiktas and we have Marcus Bettinelli, a young English talent who was exceptional in the Championship for us last season.

Whilst I always want to see the squad improved, it must be pretty disheartening for Marcus to potentially become third-choice after being so instrumental to our promotion. It just shows that in the Premier League, there isn't much place for loyalty.

John Morgan: Maybe the need for a quality centre-back by Man United when we have, at a rough estimate, 673, is because apart from Bailly (who is made of china) and possibly Lindelof, the rest are okay, but not top class. It is okay to want to improve on the players a club has.

  8. Fantasy deals to look out forpublished at 14:08 British Summer Time 9 August 2018

With the transfer window closing only 26 hours before this season’s fantasy football deadline, the deadline day stakes will be higher than ever for fantasy managers.

Manchester United are in the hunt for a new defender with Spurs’ Toby Alderweireld and Leicester’s Harry Maguire both heavily linked. Both would offer a welcome, more secure route into Mourinho’s typically solid defence but it’s Maguire, the cheaper of the two (in the game anyway!), who is likely to appeal the most to fantasy managers.

Further up the pitch, Paul Pogba’s 12% ownership will be hoping he remains at Old Trafford despite being linked with Barcelona while Crystal Palace and fantasy managers alike will nervously wait to see whether forward Wilfried Zaha remains an Eagle come 17:00BST with Spurs and Chelsea both reportedly interested.

Meanwhile rumours surrounding Nabil Fekir won’t go away with Liverpool and Chelsea both heavily linked with the Lyon midfielder. With 18 goals and eight assists in Ligue 1 last season, Fekir is sure to generate plenty of interest among fantasy managers if he does make a big-money move to the Premier League.

Remember when Pochettino said Spurs need to 'take risks' to improve this season? I doubt no signings and relying on a squad of players heavily involved in the World Cup were the type of risks he had in mind...

Dendoncker could be around the corner. Zinchenko is off and reports of a Plan B push for either Victor Moses or Danny Simpson.

Oh it's beginning to look a bit like transfer deadline day! An exciting few hours to go for Wolves.

If they need someone to help them get signatures over the line, perhaps they should look no further than recently baptised Wolves fan Tito Jackson, external, of Jackson 5 fame.

Tito and his brothers were recently snapped with Adama Traore near a local hotel before the former Middlesborough player put pen to paper on his club record fee.

Could more signings be easy as 1,2,3...?

Jonny: I've been a Man Utd fan for 38 years. I feel that Jose is the reason for us not being able to attract big names to the club. His negative style of play, open criticism of players like Pogba/Martial in press conferences and a perceived negativity surrounding the club means big names are no longer wanting to sign for us.

A bit more on that Manchester United move for Diego Godin.

It is understood United were encouraged to contact Atletico to see if there was any chance of a deal being done.

Behind the scenes, there was a suspicion they were being used as leverage by Godin's representatives to get a new deal from Atletico.

Those suspicions were confirmed once talks started.

Clearly, Godin is an outstanding player. But he was never going to end up at Old Trafford during this window.
