    BBC Radio Berkshire

BBC Radio Berkshire confirm that Liam Moore will not be leaving Reading today, despite handing in a transfer request two weeks ago.

Reports suggested that talks with Brighton broke down last week, and the manager Paul Clement admitted to me a week ago that there’d been no movement even five days after we got confirmation the transfer request had been handed in.

The 25-year-old defender said in a statement on Twitter: "In the past I have always made it clear that my ambition was to play in the Premier League. When a substantial, fair offer was rejected I privately requested to leave the club and take the opportunity to play at the highest level.

""I would like to stress I have been professional throughout. From my point of view there was no disrespect intended towards the club and I would like to thank the lads and the manager for how they have been throughout this process."

Robert Leigh: As a West Ham fan I'm really exited about this season. It's normally doom and gloom and mostly about how quick we can get to the magical 40 points, but we've made some fantastic signings this time do I'm looking for a good push - I'm optimistic for a top six finish.

  3. 'City could do with Fernandinho back-up'published at 13:50 British Summer Time 9 August 2018

    Manchester City

It was this time last year that City fans were looking back on a summer spending spree. New faces at the Etihad included Danilo, Kyle Walker, Gabriel Jesus and Benjamin Mendy. Over £200m had been splashed out.

It turned out to be quite a season for the Citizens breaking records for fun and a unique one for Mendy in particular. In the last 12 months he's played eight games and won four trophies, that's a trophy every two games!

With Jorginho choosing to spend his days off shopping on the Kings Road rather than the Arndale Centre, it means City are still short of one player, a defensive midfielder, cover for Fernandinho. If Fernandinho gets injured or is suspended, will we have to make do and mend or will there be one more new face at the Etihad?

  4. Man City done?published at 13:49 British Summer Time 9 August 2018

Just a couple of signings for Man City so far. Could they sneak another in, in the next three and a bit hours? Maybe a defensive midfielder to ease the burden on Fernandinho? There's only so much running, tackling and covering one man can do...

  6. Clucas set for Stokepublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 9 August 2018

Ince was £10m, Etebo £6m and a bit, McClean about £5m. Clucas will come with a decent price tag. That parachute money is getting spent...

  8. 'Making it up as they go along'published at 13:38 British Summer Time 9 August 2018

    Manchester United

How often will Jose Mourinho reference United's lack of signings this summer over the next few days? I count 11 players (six injured, five unavailable post World Cup) that will not be available for Friday's fixture against Leicester. It's a ready-made excuse should all not go to plan in the opening game.

Mourinho says that he's not confident about anybody coming in. Well fans have long lost confidence that United might acquire a coherent transfer policy. Mourinho only wants the finished product; Ed Woodward only bankable stars. They end up compromising on whatever shiny thing the agent-du-jour offers. Making it up as they go along.

As a United fan, I am concerned about how Mourinho's pre-season antics are turning the club I love into a joke. Focus on the football please Jose and stop with all the smoke and mirrors kind games.

Tottenham really aren't going to sign anyone are they?

It's bold. A big statement of confidence in the current squad. It could also be a decision the club regrets. That shiny new stadium needs Champions League football.

  12. How will Kovacic go on at Chelsea?published at 13:28 British Summer Time 9 August 2018

    Simon March
    Fantasy Football Champion

Kovacic to Chelsea: Arriving on a season-long loan from Real Madrid, Mateo Kovacic joins Chelsea as a highly-rated midfield talent.

Fantasy managers will be keen to see how he lines up in Maurizio Sarri’s midfield with Jorginho and N’Golo Kante having seemingly already filled the deeper-lying roles for which he might, arguably, be best suited. Many will anticipate a shoot-out for the attacking midfield spot with the equally-priced Ross Barkley and slightly cheaper Ruben Loftus-Cheek as Kovacic’s main competition. While there’s no doubting Kovacic’s technical ability, particularly with respect to his passing and dribbling skills, his attacking output to date has been somewhat underwhelming with only one league goal and six assists in three seasons for Real Madrid.

Therefore fantasy managers considering Kovacic for their teams might be best advised to hold fire until it’s clear first, how Sarri intends to use him and, second, whether his talents can translate into fantasy points.
