Brighton have agreed a fee with Wigan for the Latics central defender Dan Burn.
The Premier League outfit will pay an initial £4m, with an addition £1m due if the various add-ons are met.
Burn only has 12 months left on his contract but it is thought he will be loaned back to Wigan for the first half of the current campaign.
Everton
A lot of fans tend to over-exagerrate the importance of deadline day, but for Everton, it really could be make or break when it comes to this season's ambitions. If we don't sign a centre back today, the prospect of Michael Keane and Phil Jagielka for a minimum of almost five months is truly terrifying. Keane would have to start turning now if he's to keep up with anyone running beyond him and Jagielka is almost eligible for a bus pass.
At the other end of the pitch though, there's a much greater call for optimism. Richarlison has looked really good in pre-season and the addition of Brazilian playmaker Bernard, which should go through imminently, suddenly gives Marco Silva a plethora of attacking options alongside Theo Walcott, Cenk Tosun and Gylfi Sigurdsson.
The defensive issues would have me looking at a real struggle to get into the top half, whereas the attacking influence in the side makes me look more towards a minimum of seventh. Hoping and praying for at least one centre back!

Brighton & Hove Albion
Brighton have splashed the cash this summer, spending over £50m. On the face of it, that looks like good business.
Chris Hughton fought off competition from Leicester and Napoli to bring in Alireza Jahanbakhsh, top scorer in the Eredivisie last season.
We've signed Yves Bissouma, a midfielder who Lille fans have described as the next Paul Pogba.
Brazilian left-back Bernado strengthens the weakest area of a solid back four and we've even managed to sign a striker with Florin Andone arriving from Deportivo La Coruna.
There is still one glaring problem - scoring goals. We have one simple wish - another centre forward, a like-for-like for Glenn Murray. Otherwise, we're relying on a man who will be drawing his pension before long and an Iranian who scored big in a weak league to score the goals to keep us up. I don't fancy those odds.

Huddersfield Town
If you’d have told my late grandfather that Huddersfield Town would one day sign a World Cup winner, he’d have laughed you out of whatever pub he happened to be drinking in.
But that’s the situation we find ourselves in, with right-back Eric Durm (£3.5m from Borussia Dortmund) opting to swap the banks of the Ruhr for those of the Calder.
He’ll be challenged by former loanee Florent Hadergjonaj (£3m from Ingolstadt), a dynamic and versatile player who impressed at the John Smith’s last season.
Bombing down the other wing, or patrolling the centre of defence, depending on whether we play three or four at the back, will be Terrence Kongolo, who made his loan move from Monaco permanent for a club record fee of around £18m.
I definitely think that our team is stronger on paper, plus our older heads now know what it takes to succeed at this level. That said, the Premier League is only going to be more competitive this season, what with the addition of free-spending teams such as Wolves and Fulham. I’ll end, then, with an apt quote from Huddersfield’s most famous son, Harold Wilson: “I’m an optimist, but an optimist who carries a raincoat.”

BBC Radio Cumbria: Carlisle United manager John Sheridan is looking to sign a central defender today with former Cardiff and Huddersfield player Anthony Gerrard on his list of potential targets.
Sheridan has admitted his squad needs another “four of five” signings but says budget constraints will only allow for one more addition before the deadline.

How many defenders have United been linked to now? Maguire, Alderweireld, Boateng, Godin, Mina and, erm, Zouma.

Manchester United contacted Atletico Madrid about veteran defender Diego Godin earlier this week.
United boss Jose Mourinho has been keen to sign a central defender ahead of today’s transfer deadline and the Old Trafford club wanted to know if there was any chance of signing the 32-year-old Uruguayan, regarded as one of the best players in the world.
However, it is understood United were given no encouragement and the short-lived pursuit ended, with Godin now expected to sign a new deal at Atletico.
Mourinho said at his press conference earlier today he was ‘not confident’ about making any deadline day signings.

Leicester City
Leicester City manager Claude Puel on Harry Maguire: "He has come back with a smile. Harry is a fantastic man. He showed his quality with the national team, He came back with a good spirit and attitude.
"Filip Benkovic is a good addition for our squad. A good, young player for the future. He has good attributes to play in the Premier League."

Then, today, Jose Mourinho said this.
There wasn't much here to make Scholes change his mind...
So, a little earlier this week, Paul Scholes said that he couldn't see his former club Manchester United getting closer to rivals and champions City this season...
Real Madrid are set to confirm the signing of Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois in a few hours time.
But that doesn't mean that current Real number one Keylor Navas is on his way.
"Tell everyone loud and clear, I have as much enthusiasm for leaving Madrid as I do for dying," Navas told reporters after Real's 2-1 victory over AS Roma in a friendly at the Metlife Stadium in New Jersey on Wednesday.

Monica: I got up at 5am on my birthday to do a triathlon I had spent months training for. Turned up at the start to be told my group (the last group to start) were the people swimming round a marker about 250 metres away - they had bought the start time forward by 20 minutes. Not the best present I got that day!
Fulham
Fulham look like they're going to be busy on Transfer Deadline Day, which is very exciting. Personally, I'm happy with left-back Joe Bryan signing from Bristol City for £6m. Southampton clearly wanted too much money for Matty Targett, and it seems like Fulham weren't going to be pressured into paying top whack for him.
I think a left-back was the only signing we desperately needed, but it looks like Fulham won't rest there. I've seen rumours for Luciano Vietto, Martín Montoya and André-Frank Zambo Anguissa doing the rounds. All of those would be incredible coups and if they came off, this would surely be our best transfer window ever.

Rob: I used to work at Barclays and we stumbled across the Premier League transfer account in 2009 during the transfer window. Clubs would send the fee to that account with players name in reference field and it would then be forwarded to the selling club. Seem to remember Man City paid a lot more for Toure and Adebayor than what was reported.
