  1. Mane gets a sight of goalpublished at 37 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

Despite Tottenham's improvement, you sense Liverpool are happy when the home side commit men forward because it leaves space for the Reds to raid forward when they get the ball back.

The visitors do exactly that and feed Sadio Mane, who has pace as well as space - enough to get him into the box.

Sadly for the Liverpool forward, that is where it all goes wrong. He is off balance as he shoots and does not get enough power behind his shot to test Michel Vorm.

  2. Spurs starting to use possessionpublished at 34 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

Spurs have had 61% of possession so far, but it is only in the past few minutes that they have started to do anything with it. That is probably because Mousa Dembele has started to see more of the ball in the middle of the park, and Christian Eriksen is looking lively too.

Grant Kennett: For me, Poch has made a massive error not playing a back 3 today. Sanchez on for Dier ASAP and close that space for Liverpool’s front three.

Yas: Liverpool need to learn from Man U v Spurs game. United could have killed the game in the first half. Tottenham punished them for been wasteful in the second half.

  4. Time for Liverpool to defendpublished at 32 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

A few signs that Spurs have started to work this game out, and press Liverpool high up the pitch.

It is the visitors who are pegged back at the moment, although they remain very dangerous on the break.

  5. Spurs have a shot at goal at lastpublished at 29 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

Here comes the free-kick... Christian Eriksen tries to whip the ball low into the far corner but Allison reads it well and is down to collect.

That was Tottenham's first shot at goal, and it took them almost half an hour.

  6. Signs of life from Spurspublished at 28 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

Better from Spurs, although being better than the first 25 minutes is not difficult.

Lucas Moura's industry sees the ball drop for Harry Kane, who tries to run through a couple of Liverpool defenders inside the Reds area. Unfortunately the rules of physics mean he is blocked off.

Then Christian Eriksen gets behind the Liverpool defence, but sees his cross blocked. The resulting corner is cleared but Tottenham win a free-kick on the edge of the box.... Eriksen is behind this one as well.

Loser92: Come on the Reds! You have to win these games if you want to be serious contenders for the Premier League title.

Ash Williams: Half of this spurs team either don’t look comfortable or have been playing poorly recently.

Dire from Dier, passing the ball straight back to Salah who was just able to burst through the centre of Tottenham's defence.

However, you'd expect a much, much better finish from Salah, who should have hit one of the corners. Last season that would have been in the back of the net.

  10. Salah should do betterpublished at 23 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

Talking of poor passes, here is a terrible one in his own half by Eric Dier to let Mo Salah loose, with the Egyptian galloping in on goal.

Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen are closing in on him as he gets into the Tottenham box but Salah should do better here, with his shot far too close to Michel Vorm.

It's a good save by the Spurs' stand-in keeper, but the Salah of last season would have buried that.

  11. Poor passing letting both teams downpublished at 21 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

It is all a bit scrappy at the moment. As Chris Waddle says, both teams are struggling to find the right ball when they get close to the opposition area.

A really good start to the season by Lucas Moura, a clever player with a lot of ability, and of course he's scoring. His confidence is clearly extremely high.

There's a lot of respect between the teams - you can see that by how they've lined up against each other, But so far too many sloppy passes.

  13. Allison taking no chancespublished at 18 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

At last Spurs break out, courtesy of a long ball over the top. Reds keeper Allison is out of his box near the right-hand touchline to clear up, though, and he takes no chances as Harry Kane closes him down - hitting the ball straight out of play.

    No Cruyff turns this time.

  14. Reds press is workingpublished at 15 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

Liverpool are pressing Spurs whenever they get the ball and it is working - the home side cannot get out of their half at the moment.

  15. No Spurs whirlwind start this timepublished at 12 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

Spurs were 2-0 up against Liverpool after 12 minutes of their meeting here last season. It's been a very different start this time around.

Mike Scott: Up at around 4am for this game, in Canada. Could be 2-0 to Liverpool already... Wakey wakey Spurs!

Josh Earl: Liverpool have started like a house on fire. Spurs need to weather the early storm, they'll get chances as the game goes on.

  17. Spurs still trying to settlepublished at 8 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

Spurs are still trying to settle but they do have a free-kick in the Liverpool half after Lucas Moura is bundled over. Kieran Trippier is behind this one...

Trippier bends it in and Toby Alderweireld is on the end of it, but Liverpool's defence steps up and he is caught offside.

  18. Unhappy Pochettino makes his pointpublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 15 September 2018

    Phil McNulty

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino already gesticulating angrily at his team from his technical area inside the first few minutes - they just haven't got started and Liverpool are swarming all over them.

Liverpool will argue that goal should have stood and they could also argue they deserve to be ahead. They have been completely on top so far.

  20. 'That decision's wrong'published at 12:35 British Summer Time 15 September 2018

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Spurs and England winger at Wembley for 5 live Sport

As the ball comes in it's clearly Mane who's given offside. Does the linesman think it was him who poked it home, not Firmino? If so, that decision's wrong.

Tottenham have started asleep, they have problems down the left and it's all Liverpool so far.
