Eric Cantona scored a few sensational goals in this stadium but he will have appreciated that from his fellow countryman.

Jose Mourinho was prepared to let Anthony Martial go in the summer. Probably just as well he stayed at Old Trafford.

Martial's confidence from the first half just carried on. Tremendous shot, curled into the corner with Pickford at full stretch . A quality finish from a quality player.

    Man Utd 2-0 Everton

Is that game over for Everton? It will take some doing to retrieve this one.

And you've got to score that!

Bernard is slipped through on goal by Richarlison, onside, he dances around David de Gea, open goal - into the side netting!

He was off balance. But had to score really...

Bravo sir, bravo! That is a belter.

If there's one thing Anthony Martial has got in the locker it's a first-time, sweeping shot curled from the left of the area into the far corner. He did it at Chelsea and he's done it again. A bit further out this time, that is a cracking goal...

There was a bit of grumbling amongst some supporters at this game being moved to the Sunday, filling a TV slot left open after Tottenham's match with Manchester City was switched to tomorrow as Wembley was needed for NFL requirements today.

It has worked out well for Eric Cantona though.

The former Manchester United captain is on a tour with his 'Audience with' series and has two shows at the Lowry Theatre, which is 10 minutes walk away, today.

Cantona has chosen to fill the gap by coming over here to watch his old club play.

  7. GREAT SAVE!published at 46 mins

    Man Utd 1-0 Everton

Instant action from Everton, and it needs a good save from Dave. Richarlison backs up Chris Smalling, curls a shot between he and Victor Lindelof and De Gea has to get down smartly to keep that one out.

Let's all save ourselves time by agreeing what's going to happen in the second half: United sit back, Everton equalise. United hang on for a draw.

Tony: I have no allegiance to Everton - I am a Liverpool supporter - but they have been hard done to by the referee. A blatant dive from Martial, never a penalty.

Peter: The only decision worse than Noble's red card this weekend was that joke of a penalty for Utd, deary me

Deldude: Can we get Anthony Martial retrospectively banned for the dive against Gana? That was as blatant as it can be.

Idrissa Gueye did get a touch on the ball but it was a scruffy challenge on Anthony Martial, who definitely made a meal of it. Tough call.

    Man Utd 1-0 Everton

    Ronny Goodlass

Manchester United took their chance, and Everton will be disappointed. Sigurdsson had that flying header which went straight to De Gea, it is just that cutting edge in the final third they lack. Got to try and take those chances.

Another bad decision? Everton ending the half well as they again free Theo Walcott inside the area, he hits a shot at the near post which David de Gea can beat clear. Richarlison wanted it pulled across...

Jose Mourinho has not been seen much in his technical area this half.

In fairness, his side have been playing reasonably well, so maybe there is not much for the Manchester United manager to put right.

Opposite number Marco Silva has been present for the entire first-half.

Good ball from Gylfi Sigurdsson, between the lines and into the run of Theo Walcott. He comes on to his left foot though, and there's no real conviction in his eventual shot. A grass-cutter straight at David de Gea.

There's a lot tro admire from Everton - right up until the final third. They play their way out from the back beautifully, Seamus Coleman then carries them up the field and the play develops down the left. But then they have to come back, there's no outlet. Richarlison better suited to playing from the left?
