    Brighton 0-1 Chelsea

How can Brighton mount a comeback then? They had made a decent start but haven't managed an effort on Kepa Arrizabalaga's goal yet in the opening 28 minutes.

    Southampton 1-0 Arsenal

Danny Ings has scored his first headed goal in the Premier League since October 2015 v Everton, 1169 days ago.

I'm pretty sure that was the end of Brendan Rodgers at Anfield.

  3. 'All about the cross'published at 13:55 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

    Southampton 1-0 Arsenal

    Danny Mills
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 live

It was a fabulous ball in from Matt Targett. And this is what I've been talking about.

Without a second thought he just whips it into the box and Danny Ings does brilliantly to get there. He's hardly had a touch but that's what he can offer. It's all about the cross though.

Laurent Koscielny is in a bad position. He's facing his own goal so can't see where Danny Ings is. He's then panicking because the ball is played between himself and the goalkeeper. He should have thrown his head at it. Instead it's a last-ditch effort.

    Brighton 0-1 Chelsea

Chelsea popping the ball around with real menace now. As it stands Chelsea have a three-point cushion over fifth-placed Arsenal.

Danny Ings has another shot on target from the edge of the area. As it stands, the Saints are out of the bottom three.

    Danny Ings (20 mins)

Oh hello! Squint and this could be Wayne Bridge finding James Beattie in days gone by.

Matt Targett puts in an absolutely golden cross from the left, whipped in, takes two defenders out of the game. Laurent Koscielny is under it, he tries to volley it away when he could maybe have headed it, but either way he's beaten by the flight and Danny Ings is free to power in a header from about six yards.

Fine goal. All about the assist.

    Southampton 0-0 Arsenal

Saints fans have started to find their voice - and with good reason. They are having a good spell. Stuart Armstrong hits the target with a curler.

  8. 'Pedro won't get an easier goal'published at 13:49 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

    Brighton 0-1 Chelsea

    Warren Aspinall
    Ex-Brighton striker on BBC Sussex

You cannot give class players time and space and Pedro won't get an easier goal this season. Bernardo should have picked up his man.

  9. Redmond looking livelypublished at 13:48 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

    Southampton 0-0 Arsenal

    Danny Mills
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 live

Nathan Redmond's been the liveliest Southampton player by far. He just needs to get a bit of support around him. Danny Ings has hardly been in the game so far.

The crowd's been a bit flat. They just need a chance or a challenge, something to get them off their feet.

  10. goal

GOAL - Brighton 0-1 Chelseapublished at 13:46 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

    Pedro (17 mins)

Wherever you play him, Eden Hazard is absolutely brilliant. This is sensational - if he means it. I think he does.

Hazard has a shot on the edge of the area, it breaks back to him, he powers past the last defender and then, when a shot seems the obvious move, he plays an incredible pass across the face of goal to give Pedro a tap-in.

Pedro was onside, the angle Hazard found was superb. Chelsea lead.

    Brighton 0-0 Chelsea

I'm not sure Eden Hazard is a big fan of playing in this role as the central forward, he has the body language of a frustrated man out there. A few palms raised to the sky, a few shakes of the head.

He has just created a good chance for Marcos Alonso though with a deft flick of the heel, the left-back bombed on on the underlap but his eventual shot was charged down.

  12. Postpublished at 13:44 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

    Southampton 0-0 Arsenal

Nathan Redmond, with Wolverine-esque recovery levels, is back on and back at it, running at the Arsenal defence and seeing a shot deflected wide for a corner. Good play.

  13. Subtle differencespublished at 13:43 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

    Southampton 0-0 Arsenal

    Danny Mills
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 live

There are very subtle differences between the two sides and it's all about confidence.

Arsenal, when they pick the ball up, they look to play the ball forward very quickly - not by lumping it forward but by good passing.

Southampton just want that extra touch, that bit of extra time, but sometimes you have to whizz it into the centre-forward's feet and then get forward.

    Brighton 0-0 Chelsea

Good play again from Brighton - this time down the left. They find Solly March in space just inside the area, he rattles off an early shot but it's well blocked by Cesar Azpilicueta.

  15. ouch!

Postpublished at 13:41 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

A problem here for Nathan Redmond - he's pulled up and needs some treatment.

  16. Postpublished at 13:41 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

    Brighton 0-0 Chelsea

Brighton yet to threaten the visitors but they are seeing plenty of the ball. Anthony Knockaert is lively on the right hand side in these early stages.

  17. Postpublished at 13:38 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

    Southampton 0-0 Arsenal

This may not bode well for Southampton but it's an open, entertaining game so far. The Saints have an overload down their left but don't make the most of it, Matt Targett wastes his cross and Arsenal break with real intent. It ends with Henrikh Mkhitaryan in space, he carries it a long way and shoots, blocked as well...

    Brighton 0-0 Chelsea

Chelsea win a free-kick dead central, Eden Hazard hacked from behind. David Luiz lines it up, gets it over the wall with that weird side-foot technique but it's an easy hold for Mat Ryan.

  19. GREAT SAVE!published at 13:36 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

    Southampton 0-0 Arsenal

First real chance of the day. Arsenal go direct, Matteo Guendouzi floats a nice ball over the top of the Saints defence, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang tames it with a fine touch and gets an early shot away, it's straight at Alex McCarthy though and he beats it clear.

  20. 'Saints need to gamble'published at 13:35 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

    Southampton 0-0 Arsenal

    Danny Mills
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 live

Southampton have got to take a few risks in the final third. You can't be too precise, at times. They've got to gamble a bit.
