    Gee Em: Wolves could drop 5 places if results go against them, but they should be top seven. Better than Man U and the other teams below them. Decent side.

    FT: Wolves 0-2 Liverpool

    Stephen Warnock
    Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 live

    If you're Liverpool players and fans you sit back tomorrow and say 'let's see what Man City do against Crystal Palace on Saturday'. I think i know what they'll do, they'll respond the way they usually do.

  5. 'It was perfect football'published at 22:10 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2018

    FT: Wolves 0-2 Liverpool

    Liverpool

    Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to BBC Sport: "It was clear that the whole game would be difficult. Everybody wants to press. We want to be compact but wide as well which makes it difficult. We defended it pretty well. The heavy rain was difficult for both teams tonight. It was a big fight. We knew that we needed to be ready.

    "The first goal was brilliant, it was cool. And the second goal - yes, well done! I am completely happy with the result and it is big for us. We wanted to surprise our opponent. It was brilliant - both goals. It was perfect football, especially on a night like tonight when it was difficult to play proper football.

    "I saw some really good things tonight. We will be training on Christmas morning so it is like every other day. It is an outstanding number [of points in the league] - it is absolutely cool.

    "We have Manchester City waiting and that will be really tough for the boys. We need to have different game plans but the boys showed they are ready for that."

  6. 'We didn't maintain consistency'published at 22:09 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2018

    Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santos to BBC Sport: "We started the game well, chances for both teams. We didn't maintain the consistency through the game. The start of the second half is not good. Better decisions or composure we could have harmed a very good team.

    "The boys worked very hard and it's difficult to play against Liverpool especially when they're in front.

    "We deserved one goal at least. We have to now rest.

    "I'm happy because of the way we work and pass the moments football gives. We are consistent - the table doesn't mean anything."

  7. 'A great win'published at 22:05 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2018

    FT: Wolves 0-2 Liverpool

    Stephen Warnock
    Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 live

    Liverpool played well, were well organised and learned their lessons from the first half and fully deserved to win this game. Many people thought it would be a tough game and were wondering if Wolves could upset a top-six side again.

    Could Wolves have been calmer in front of goal at times? Sometimes that's the difference when you step up from the Championship. I do believe they need to bring in players, whether it's in January or the summer - they need a £20 to £30m striker.

    Johnny Ward: Caught the LFC game in the airport lounge in Dubai. Great performance and another clean sheet. VVD is probably the best Liverpool signing of my 35 years. Legitimately wouldn’t swap him for any CB on the planet.

    A clean sheet, three points and top of the table at Christmas. How do you feel Liverpool fans? Are you a Stevie or a Jamie?

    Gerrard = smug

    Carragher = disbelief

    No shame at all for Wolves. They never gave in and caused Liverpool a few problems - particularly in the first half.

    Solid, professional performance from Liverpool. They are really looking the business.

    Richard Cumiskey: Don't think Wolves should be ashamed of that performance. They just came up against a good, professional Liverpool side today. Honestly starting to think they can win the league.

    Mohamed Salah almost gets a second assist. He puts Willy Boly under pressure and the ball falls to Georginio Wijnaldum in the centre of the box but the midfielder can only drag his shot wide.

    Wolves 0-2 Liverpool

    Willy Boly's control lets him down and Mohamed Salah is on him like a bad rash. The forward wins the ball but his touch sends it too far in front to chase and Rui Patricio is quick off his line to snuff out the danger.

    Salah has been exceptional tonight.

    Mohamed Salah wants another goal. He dribbles the ball all the way along the backline before he's eventually blocked off by Willy Boly - only to win another corner. That's nine for Liverpool.

  20. CLOSE!published at 90 mins

    Wolves 0-2 Liverpool

    A whipped ball in from the left isn't dealt with by Andy Robertson and it hits the back of his heels, falling kindly for Morgan Gibbs-White. The youngster has the whole goal to aim for but snaps at his shot and sends the ball wide of Alisson's left post.

    Real chance.
