  2. Fabinho a rock in midfieldpublished at 19:04 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2018

    Wolves v Liverpool (20:00 GMT)

Fabinho has started to shine for Liverpool in recent performances. The midfielder, who joined from Monaco in the summer, was a stand-out performer in the win over Manchester United last week.

He ran the show in midfield and has been rewarded by retaining his place in the starting XI for tonight's match.

Can he have a similar impact?

Liverpool head to Molineux for the first of two trips in the space of two and a half weeks, knowing a win will leave them in top spot on Christmas Day.

The previous four sides to lead the way on 25 December have gone on to win the title. The last team not to were Liverpool themselves.

With 25 points, Wolves have already matched their tally from the whole of their most recent Premier League campaign in 2011-12.

Their record against the established top six this season has also been excellent. The only defeat in five such games came at home to Tottenham, and they have beaten Chelsea while taking a point off both Manchester clubs and Arsenal.

    Wolves v Liverpool (20:00 GMT)

Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo on the team's improved form: "It makes you proud that when you have a bad moment and you get out of it, the way we did it, credit to the players - we solved it.

"It doesn't mean it can't happen again, but we are ready.

"They [Liverpool] are top of the league, it says we're going to face one of the best teams in Europe. We look forward to it."

Stee: Wolves will come out swinging, unlike United they will be a threat to Liverpool's unbeaten run. I'm going 0-1 Liverpool though! But should be a tough one!

Last week, Mike Kearney was hugging his cousin in the stands at Anfield after Mohamed Salah fired Liverpool into the Champions League knockout stages.

Seven days later he was embracing the goalscorer himself.

Salah invited Kearney - who was born with sight problems - to Liverpool's Melwood training ground after a video of him celebrating went viral.

  9. The Lovren cursepublished at 18:45 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2018

    Wolves v Liverpool (20:00 GMT)

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has a habit of predicting the opposite and so when he said he believed his side were capable of going the season unbeaten, the response from fans was pretty comical.

Lovren said Liverpool could match Arsenal's 'Invincibles' side from 2004 in an interview earlier this week as they have already gone 17 games without defeat.

"Hopefully we can be unbeaten until the end of the season," said Lovren. "That is why we came to Liverpool.

"Arsenal did it before so why not?"

  10. Festive form for Wolvespublished at 18:41 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2018

    Wolves v Liverpool (20:00 GMT)

    Wolves are on a roll.

If you had been told the newly-promoted side had a chance to end the year in the top six, you would probably not have believed it at the start of the season.

But Wolves now have 25 points after 17 games - equal to their total tally in 2011-12 - and are looking to win four back-to-back league games for the first time since January 1972.

After a dip in form during November, Wolves bounced back this month and are keeping up with Manchester United.

Victory today would see them overtake United, at least for a day. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first game in charge of United is against Cardiff at 17:30 GMT tomorrow evening.

    Wolves v Liverpool (20:00 GMT)

"All I want for Christmas is... to be top of the table".

Liverpool became league leaders when Manchester City slipped up against Chelsea and the Reds overcame bitter rivals Manchester United last week to retain their place at the helm.

Win today, and Liverpool will sit top of the table on Christmas day.

In 14 of the 26 previous Premier League seasons, the team in that position on December 25 has gone on to win the title.

It's been the case in eight of the last nine campaigns - the exception being Liverpool in 2013-14.

  12. Almost at the halfway pointpublished at 18:32 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December 2018

    Wolves v Liverpool (20:00 GMT)

Liverpool's haul of 45 points from their opening 17 league games is their best at this stage of a top-flight campaign.

If they beat Wolves today and Newcastle on Boxing Day, they will have gone unbeaten against every team in the league by the halfway point.

It's looking very positive for the league leaders and so far, they have performed well against newly-promoted sides.

They have earned seven successive league victories, scoring a total of 23 goals and conceding just twice.

But will Wolves be one of their toughest tests yet?
