    Chelsea 0-0 Southampton

Marcos Alonso wastes a Chelsea free-kick before James Ward-Prowse shoots over the top for the Saints. Still we await the first goal of the night as the two 20:00 GMT kick-offs approach.

Re: Aidan. 19.29. Slightly over hyping Newcastle my friend. Closer to a Cortina.

Surely Carroll will score a screamer off his melon from a deep cross to celebrate his return?

    Mike Washington

Is it just me or is Ole Solskjear morphing into Mark Hughes?

    West Ham 0-0 Brighton

Andy Carroll tries to hold the ball up but gets it nicked off him. He hassles back but ends up sliding in and bringing down Martin Montoya, giving away a free-kick in West Ham's half.

    Wolves 0-0 Crystal Palace

A shot on goal! Raul Jimenez takes it on from a good 25 yards out, he catches it cleanly too but it's always rising and it ends up well over the bar. Good hit from the Wolves man though.

    Huddersfield 0-0 Burnley

Steve Mounie may have just trumped Phillip Biling's 'shot' (could you call it that?). He hasn't scored since April but has the audacity to attempt an overhead kick. It's fair to say it didn't quite come off...

All Brighton at the moment. Plenty of touches in the opposition half, as you can see below.

    Huddersfield 0-0 Burnley

Alex Pritchard goes for a darting run down the right wing, weaving in and out of several challenges before laying it off for Phillip Billing on the edge of the box. But Billing's shot is awful and it dribbles nearer to the corner flag than the goal.

    Wolves 0-0 Crystal Palace

Palace are seeing plenty of the ball but have created the square root of nothing so far. Sound familiar?

  10. Lukaku needs to listen to Solskjaerpublished at 19:51 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2019

Newcastle v Man Utd (20:00 GMT)

    Alan Shearer
Former England captain on Radio 5 live

Romelu Lukaku can be leaner. He is maybe half a stone overweight

If he listens to Solskjaer he can start playing well and start scoring goals.

  11. Postpublished at 19:51 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2019

    Chelsea 0-0 Southampton

Chelsea dominant, Southampton sitting deep. So deep in fact that David Luiz is the last man for Chelsea and he's well inside the Southampton half.

    West Ham 0-0 Brighton

Two corners already by Brighton. They have started brightly in London. Shane Duffy heads straight into the keeper's hands at the back post.

  13. 'Rashford just needed some to love him'published at 19:49 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2019

Newcastle v Man Utd (20:00 GMT)

    Alan Shearer
Former England captain on Radio 5 live

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has put his arm round Marcus Rashford and he's been telling him he is a very good footballer, how he is his man and that he is going to play.

Solskjaer will give him tips on where to run and how to run.

The ability is there with Rashford and he just needed someone to love him.

    Chelsea 0-0 Southampton

When in doubt, give it to Hazard. Eden has three men in red and white in his personal space but still rolls away from them all on the halfway line and plays in Willian with a wonderful through ball. Fair play to debutant Angus Gunn though - his positioning is sound, he's off his line quickly and sweeps it away.

    Huddersfield 0-0 Burnley

A nod on by Chris Wood almost falls into the feet of a teammate in the box but Huddersfield manage to hook it clear.

    Wolves 0-0 Crystal Palace

Wolves will go seventh with a win tonight. It's been quite a season back in the big time so far. Roy Hodgson is already out patrolling his technical area, hands firmly scrunched in pockets.

    West Ham 0-0 Brighton

Lukasz Fabianski is hurried to clear and the West Ham keeper skews his kick left and out for a throw in.

Bit of defending for West Ham to do at the moment.

  18. Postpublished at 19:46 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2019

    Chelsea 0-0 Southampton

You can have all the fireworks you like but Chelsea still launch the kick-off clean out of play like a League Two side.
