Fred Honsa: Carroll starts. Fantasy football just got exciting!

Mark Taylor: Looking forward to seeing Alexis come on at some stage and hope he has been taking the happy pills as well, because if he reacts the same as the others, watch out.

Kyle: I fancy Manchester United to edge it tonight 2-1. Defensively Manchester United are a shambles. I'm sure Newcastle will get chances to score tonight. They have had a good run since Jose left but they are games they were expected to win.

    Huddersfield v Burnley (19:45 GMT)

    John Roder
    Match of the Day commentator

Both these clubs enter the New Year with a battle against relegation ahead of them, and it would seem that Burnley have the better chance of avoiding the drop.

Seven Premier League defeats in a row for Huddersfield is a huge concern, and their poor scoring record simply has to change if they are to avoid a return to the Championship after two seasons in the top flight.

I saw Burnley play superbly to defeat a very poor West Ham side on Sunday. It was a performance that said much about their determination to get out of trouble. With the momentum from the weekend, Burnley must surely start this match as favourites.

    Huddersfield v Burnley (19:45GMT)

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at John Smith's Stadium

In all likelihood, this will be the last top flight meeting between these teams until at least 2020.

By then we will be approaching the highest scoring match between them, the 7-1 Huddersfield victory in November 1928.

I am not expecting a repeat. Seven is over half the number of goals Huddersfield have scored in the entire season so far this season.

Former Brighton striker Warren Aspinall on BBC Sussex: "I think Brighton are overachieving. They have bought a lot of players who are now bedding in.

"Saturday saw seven new players involved. Do they need to buy any more? Not really, but they might."

West Ham v Brighton (19:45 GMT)

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Chris Hughton: "I think always the biggest challenge is complacency...

"We are still in our second season in the division - still the aim has to be about making sure we maintain Premier League status, allow ourselves to develop and grow as a club.

"But we've worked very hard to be where we are now and we have to be respectful that every single game we have is difficult."

Karen Langley: Personally wondering if we can petition #LFC to send Solanke out on loan, sell Origi and get Wilson into the squad next season with Brewster also being on the subs bench (maybe with Kent and Woodburn too)?

Freddie: I haven't seen the purchase of Pulisic as a surrender of Hazard, but as a replacement for Willian, hes been on the decline since 2016 so its an improvement

Southampton midfielder Steven Davis is keen to return to Rangers but talks are still taking place to determine whether it will be a loan or permanent deal.

The 34-year-old has made only six appearances this term and Southampton are happy for the Northern Ireland international to leave during January.

His contract expires in the summer.

I expect Rafa Benitez to frustrate Manchester United tonight. Going forward United aren't taking as many touches on the ball and they're asking more different and difficult questions of the opposition.

    They're playing with more freedom.

  14. 'A fixture West Ham don't enjoy'published at 19:20 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2019

West Ham v Brighton (19:45 GMT)

    Simon Brotherton
    Match of the Day commentator

This isn't a fixture West Ham have enjoyed at all since Brighton won promotion a couple of years ago: the Hammers have lost all three Premier League encounters.

Last season, Albion won 3-0 at the London Stadium and they travel to the capital on the back of a decent Christmas, claiming four points at home against Arsenal and Everton.

West Ham had been on a good run of five wins in six before coming unstuck at Turf Moor against Burnley on Sunday - a result Manuel Pellegrini felt was influenced by having less recovery time than their opponents, following last Thursday's win at Southampton.

Newcastle v Man Utd (20:00 GMT)

    Alan Shearer
Former England captain on BBC Radio 5 live

It's going to be a big test and a tough game for Newcastle tonight.

You do get the feeling a lot of these fans turn up because they have to - it's their life. They support this club though thick and thin. They are turning up and hoping more than anything and it's been like that for a while.

We knew before a ball was kicked it would be a long, hard season and I think they will have enough - just- if they keep hold of Rafa Benitez to the end of the season.

  17. 'It has a little price to pay'published at 19:12 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2019

    Huddersfield v Burnley (19:45 GMT)

    Burnley

Burnley manager Sean Dyche: "In my six years [at Burnley] this is probably the second spell I've had where it's been super tough. I had a spell at the end of my first half-season and this is probably the next one.

"Some of these players have been under the radar for a long, long time and the summer changes all of that. They're human beings, they're maturing, growing. They're more recognised Premier League players and that has a little price to pay.

"You've got to keep your standards high, keep that edge and desire. They keep popping up with performances when needed. Now it's about finding that consistency."

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe explained today how it's been a tough spell for his side, on and off the field - and for one player in particular.

Howe said: "It's been a demanding Christmas period for us, with a lot of away games at a time of year that's usually associated with family. Charlie Daniels' father has been seriously ill, and Charlie's been the brilliant professional that he is.

"We always support our players through any difficult period, we've done it with a number of players in our recent history and it's important the club and the supporters really get behind Charlie, and we let the Daniels family know we're with them every step of the way."
