  1. Does Andy Carroll make a difference to Brighton's approach?published at 19:05 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2019

West Ham v Brighton (19:45 GMT)

Brighton boss Chris Hughton says the visitors won't change their approach because of Andy Carroll, but says: "We know the threat he poses. He’s a handful and that is one of only a few difficulties we need to be mindful of."

Asked why he has brought the former Newcastle and Liverpool striker back into the fold, Manuel Pellegrini says: "There have been too many games in the last month, so we need players who are fresh."

Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy up against Carroll - should be one for the purists.

    Huddersfield v Burnley (19:45GMT)

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at John Smith's Stadium

Huddersfield owner Dean Hoyle has given his backing to manager David Wagner ahead of tonight's game with Burnley.

The Terriers are bottom of the table, lost a huge game at Fulham on Saturday and are paying the price for a chronic lack of goals - just 12 in 20 games.

But, in his programme notes, Hoyle explains: "David is an ambitious man who wants to write another chapter in our book. He pushes himself as hard as anyone at this club and deserves all the backing in the world.”

Not defending Chelsea's transfer policy in general, but loaning Pulisic back seems sensible to me. January transfers often flop, it's a tough adjustment and the loan gives him a chance to get his form and his house in order before a big move - he's only 20 after all - and he can then have a full pre season with Sarri. Whether or not he's the right buy is a different story

    Andy

Only surprise Newcastle United could spring is an attacking style of play. Manager has ran out of ideas blames everyone but himself. Man United to win still think that they will concede.

Does buying Pulisic mean that Chelsea have finally come to accept that Hazard will leave this summer? Looks a viable reason to me

  10. Big opportunity for Morata - Sarripublished at 18:57 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2019

    Chelsea v Southampton (19:45 GMT)

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri on the inclusion of Alvaro Morata up front. He says: "I think it is a very good opportunity. Alvaro had an injury one month ago, then recovered, then he did very well in the last week in training. Without Pedro and Giroud it was a big opportunity for him and I wanted to give him the opportunity.

"It is very difficult to play every three days in this period. Every match is really very difficult and with the new coach Southampton are doing better, he changed their way of playing and they are dangerous."

  11. 'Watford's form isn't causing alarm'published at 18:55 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2019

    Bournemouth v Watford (20:00 GMT)

    Jonathan Pearce
BBC Match of the Day commentator

Bournemouth haven't won the opening league game of a calendar year since 2012. Watford have lost seven New Year openers on the spin!

But Watford's current form isn't causing alarm. Far from it. Just one league defeat in five. A win here will make give them 46 points under Javi Gracia - a Premier League record for a Hornets boss.

Bournemouth's slump IS deeply concerning. The 10-year average survival mark is 36 points. They need another 10.

With nine defeats in 11 games in all, only nine goals scored in that time and possibly five key players missing on Wednesday (three of them out long term), it's difficult to see them getting a much-needed victory in this. They can't afford to lose.

Former Huddersfield Town goalkeeper Matt Glennon speaking on BBC Radio 5 live Drive, said:

"The Fulham game at the weekend did not have many chances and the opposition keepers are not having to make saves.
