I feel sorry for Sean Longstaff in the midfield. Ki Sung-yeung is more suited to being in a three and it doesn’t look like Longstaff as a young player is getting the support he needs in there.

It's a little better from Newcastle. They've shown a bit more urgency but they're still hitting long balls.

There's no sign of any creativity or invention just yet.

Geordie Sean Longstaff will want to make it a dream Newcastle debut and takes aim from long range, but his shot loops over the crossbar.

Ohh, what a miss.

Nottingham Forest work an opening through Gil Dias, whose thumping strike is palmed into the danger area by Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow.

Goalscorer Daryl Murphy is first to it and just needs to roll into an open net, but defender Federico Fernandez does brilliantly to slide in and nudge the ball away for a corner.

From the resulting set piece, defender Michael Hefele gets his head onto the ball but cannot direct the effort on target.

Much better from Newcastle at the start of the second half.

Christian Atsu looks for striker Joselu again and finds him with a cross from the left, which the Spaniard flicks on, but Luke Steele stretches to his right to push the ball away.
