There are two ways of looking at Newcastle this season.

They nearly stole a point against Chelsea so it could have been a confidence boost for them. But they’re not going for the kill and trying to get on top so are the players on board with these tactics?

I wonder how it will play out tonight.

Sean Longstaff makes his debut for Newcastle at the City Ground this evening - but the 20-year-old midfielder has other sporting connections in his family.

His younger brother Matt is also on the books of Newcastle, however it is his father David who is the real sporting legend of the family having become the first man to reach 100 caps for the Great Britain ice-hockey team.

His playing career has included stints in Sweden and Switzerland but the 43-year-old is now player-coach with hometown club Whitley Warriors.

Nottingham Forest and Newcastle met in this very competition, at this very round last season.

On that occasion 12 months ago, Forest emerged victorious 3-2 in a thriller at St James' Park.

But Aitor Karanka's side have a poor League Cup record at home against Premier League opponents, losing all their last seven.

Paul 'Gazza' Gascoigne played for the Blues in that game.

Reading XI: Walker, Gunter, O'Shea, Moore, Bacuna, Swift, Ilori, Meite, Richards, McNulty, Kelly.

It's a whole new team for Watford after Sunday's victory over Crystal Palace maintained their 100% start to the season. A chance for a host of fringe players to play their way into Javi Gracia's thoughts.

The Watford boss hands debuts to Marc Navarro, Adam Masina, Domingos Quina and Ben Wilmot while Ken Sema makes his first start.

  8. 'A good squad on paper'published at 19:14 British Summer Time 29 August 2018

Nottingham Forest v Newcastle (19:45 BST)

    Andy Reid
Ex-Nottingham Forest and Tottenham midfielder on 5 live

It’s an important game for Forest tonight because it's on TV and they want people to see the progress they've made.

Since the new owners came in, they’ve spent a lot of money putting together a good-looking squad on paper. They haven’t quite got going yet but it takes time for a team to gel.

I'm sure they’ll get better as the season goes on.

On paper, this looks to be a one-sided affair as Championship side Millwall take on Plymouth, who are bottom of League One.

Millwall are unbeaten in their last 16 home matches against Plymouth, since a 2-1 loss back in 1967.

    I don't remember that one.

A nice birthday present from Millwall for striker Steve Morison by putting him on the bench for today's game against Plymouth.
