Deadlock broken in Germany. And it is Breel Embolo with it, finding the net from just inside the box. Lovely stuff.

Bit lazy. Liverpool patiently tee up Sturridge on the edge of the box and his curling effort goes high and wide.

    Liverpool 2-1 PSG

    Stephen Warnock
Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 live

We all know Liverpool like to play a high pressing game, but some times you have to take the sting out of games because you cannot keep it up for 90 minutes. I've been impressed with Liverpool tonight.

This half will show just how much Liverpool have progressed defensively from last season.

    Liverpool 2-1 PSG

Sturridge should have a second goal. A cross from the right is right onto his head, just eight yards out, nobody near him. He gets it all wrong, though, and the ball strikes his shoulder, taking all power out of it. Easy save.

  7. 'The fourth official didn't wave his flag'published at 21:21 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Liverpool 2-1 PSG

    Stephen Warnock
Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 live

Daniel Sturridge goes for the ball and his foot rolls over it, but the fourth official doesn't wave his flag or say anything.

To be fair, the officials have it right. Mo Salah was the one to put the ball in the net from close range but the reason it doesn't stand is because just before that Daniel Sturridge dives in and sticks his boot into a very uncomfortable part of PSG keeper Alphonse Areola's anatomy.

Did the assistant behind the goal play any part in that? He was right next to the incident so he should have.

Anyway, it is not a goal.

    Liverpool 2-1 PSG

For a good 30 seconds Liverpool think they have a potentially crucial third. But it's ruled out. I'll need a replay to see why...

    Liverpool 2-1 PSG

Liverpool playing like a side who have something to protect now. The relentless attacking of the first half tempered by that PSG goal.

It is, as they say, in the balance.

TheBubbaKing: Liverpool have been brilliant so far. If they can hold on and win this it would be a massive statement to the rest of The Champions League.

Alistair: Expect a few more goals here

Rezaa: Salah doesn't look like the player he was last season. A one season wonder?

Just as Liverpool have kept Mbappe and Neymar relatively quite, PSG are keeping close watch of Salah and Mane. Mo Salah gets the ball on the edge of the box but the PSG boots snap in quickly to deny him any room in which to work.

  13. 'Klopp's substitutions will be pivotal'published at 21:08 British Summer Time 18 September 2018

    Liverpool 2-1 PSG

    Stephen Warnock
Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 live

I am expecting more goals in the second half.

James Milner and Jordan Henderson are covering every blade of grass, but that is going to be tough to keep up for 90 minutes, so the substitutions Jurgen Klopp makes will be pivotal.

    Liverpool 2-1 PSG

Mbappe tries to make an early in-road into the Liverpool box. James Milner is having none of it, ending his run with a big challenge.

Andy Robertson then has to be alert to track Cavani in the box and tackle to prevent the striker having an effort.
