    Liverpool 0-0 Everton

You can't score goals if you don't take chances. Fact.

Theo Walcott needs some treatment after Gini WIjnaldum inadvertently stands on his Achilles but he's able to continue after the application of an icepack. Richarlison then gets scissored by Fabinho, who likes a clumsy tackle. He evades a yellow card though.

The second half is much slower in pace. Predictably so.

That's why Roberto Firmino is in that position. He puts it through to Sadio Mane and he just seems to hit it with his toe. He doesn't wrap his foot around it. Great play by Firmino.

Last year Mohamed Salah and Mane were taking those chances. It seemed everything they hit went in the net. This season they're just not taking those chances, which is why they're not scoring as many goals.

There are three ex-Barca players in the Everton XI today, and they've all done well for my money. Sadio Mane has wasted two very good chances now though.

It's quite difficult for Richarlison sometimes. When they hit it up to him he's not had any joy because he's up against Virgil van Dijk.

But when they play it into his feet and into the final third they've looked a threat.

LIverpool looking for Xherdan Shaqiri more and more, his cross from the right is a good one but Sadio Mane is pinged for a push in the area.

And that's a chance! Roberto Firmino takes the ball on his chest, turns and plays Mane in on goal. He's got two defenders on him but just the keeper to beat - and he slides it wide!

    Liverpool 0-0 Everton

Everton have started well again, they are pressing Liverpool high up the park. It's a brave strategy at Anfield and a world away from how they lined up under Allardyce.

Roberto Firmino finds Mo Salah with a neat flick though and Bernard has to scramble back and put it out for a corner...

    Liverpool 0-0 Everton

Sadio Mane loses the ball midway inside his own half and Theo Walcott sets off on an enterprising run on goal. It's not quite up to the one he managed at Anfield years back when he set up Adebayor in the Champions League - remember that? - and he's closed down.

At the other end Mo Salah collects the ball and bends a 22-yarder wide!

The fluency we've become accustomed to with Liverpool has been with a 4-3-3. Mohamed Salah is playing in a more central role and Roberto Firmino's not been able to get on the ball and dictate the play.

They have had chances but just been as fluent because they've changed their system.

Going in level is probably right.

You would suggest Liverpool will score in this game. Only Cardiff have scored here this season so when you get chances like Yerry Mina's you need to take them.

There's been good play, with Andre Gomes impressive for Everton and Mohamed Salah a threat, so it's been an entertaining first half.

  17. Koscielny speech helped us - Emerypublished at 17:07 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2018

    FT: Arsenal 4-2 Tottenham

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Unai Emery, speaking to BBC Sport: "For us winning is very important, together we can play like today. Our position on the pitch was good, every time we compete with and without the ball.

"And they kept calm even when Spurs were winning. I am very happy for the supporters and for every player.

"We want to keep improving defensively and not conceding opportunities for the opposition to score.

"Every player is like me, when it is a first derby we need the other players to give us his experience and character for playing in these matches. For example, our meeting today finished with Laurent Koscielny in the dressing room, a very good speech for one or two minutes, which showed us the way to win.

"A result like today and how we are playing is good for our confidence. Now we plan for three points at Manchester United on Wednesday."

  18. 'Small details turn games'published at 17:07 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2018

    Arsenal 4-2 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, speaking to BBC Sport: "I think the game was even and we were managing the game well until 2-2.

"We were unlucky how we conceded the third goal and after that it was tough. Then we conceded quick and the sending off of Jan Vertonghen ended it.

"I was disappointed with the goals we conceded, of course Arsenal deserve credit but we made many mistakes.

"In these type of games, the small details can turn the game to one side or the other."

  19. 'I want to do more'published at 17:06 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2018

    FT: Arsenal 4-2 Tottenham

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Unai Emery, speaking to Sky Sports: "I think this is our process and also today with our supporters here the atmosphere was very big, they push a lot for us. In the first half we kept calm and we spoke in the dressing room, we were having good minutes in the first half but could not continue in our plan in the game.

"I felt we needed something different on the pitch. Above all our situation is for me the reason to do that. Aaron [Ramsey] knows this derby and his spirit is important, secondly the possibility with [Alexandre] Lacazette to find when there are chances, his efficiency is very big.

"We are watching last week Tottenham play at home against Chelsea and they won, and very big big performance with their supporters. We said we can do, change the performance for us, positive and break their moment. Not easy, but with our supporters it can be that. Very important today here the atmosphere.

"I want to do more. Last week three points in Bournemouth is the same. We need first to win three points there because we can't play here with possibility to go above Tottenham in the table. For supporters it is a special match, for us too because we want to give them a special match. But for now I am already thinking Wednesday in Manchester."

  20. 'They had more energy'published at 17:06 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2018

    FT: Arsenal 4-2 Tottenham

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a very competitive game, it's tough for us because the fixture was after Chelsea and Inter Milan, it didn't help us, but the team was very competitive.

"Arsenal had a lot of energy but in the end it was even at 2-2 in the second half, the third goal was so tough for the team to come back again.

"Of course he [Juan Foyth] missed, he failed in this action [for Arsenal's third goal] but he was great in the game, fantastic. When you are young in this type of game always it is difficult but I'm not going to focus on him - the team until 2-2 was good.

"But of course, the way you concede, then the belief of the opponent, who was fresh... it is not an excuse but when you concede 3-2 you need energy to come back. Disappointed with the result but looking forward to the next game."
