Jose Mourinho made a reference about starting fast today - they've started games so badly this season but you saw from the off Lukaku sprinting to chase the ball, Rashford being direct and Fulham couldn't cope with it.

That's what you want to see from Manchester United.

Manchester United

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho told BBC Sport: “Today we scored the first goal, quite soon and we managed to keep going string until half-time.

“The players understand when we have 11 players sticking together we can be a much better team.

“I’m not a scout, I have no chance to do that. I can do it with Dalot because he is Portuguese. I can control that market pretty well. He’s a player with fantastic potential.

“The players understood after Arsenal, when with a bad result you can be happy. They wanted to bring that same mentality to the game today. When the players give everything, the feeling is still positive. When you give everything for the club, you are a better team.”

They're not title contenders yet for me, but they're top four material. They've kept the run going which is great for morale and I think that would be a really great achievement this season.

Arsenal

Arsenal skipper Granit Xhaka: "It was a difficult game, they play one-on-one in the whole pitch. But 1-0 and three points and that is the most important thing for us. We have to believe until the end and we have to do that.

On Lucas Torreira's bicycle-kick goal: "I think he wants to be like Aubameyang or Lacazette! It was an important goal for the whole team because it was not easy."

On Arsenal extending their unbeaten run after a tricky week: "It was a perfect week for us I think. Tottenham at home, Manchester United away, today... four games and 10 points. I think it is perfect for us.

"We still have a lot of things to improve, of course, but we can be happy. It is not normal to go 21 matches unbeaten.

"We have to believe from the first minute to the end and today again we showed a good character."

Cardiff City

Cardiff goalscorer Callum Paterson speaking to Match of the Day: "The goal was a bit of a shank but we played very well and we deserved the win.

"It was a tough game – Southampton are a tough team – but we did well. It was a tough chance to take, but you have to be alive to all opportunities and thankfully it went in.

"We’re in together all day every day. We fight together as a unit. We know our defence is maybe not as strong as it was last season. It was enormous for us to keep ourselves out of that bottom three and we managed to do that tonight."

Manchester United

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho told Sky Sports: "The first half was really good. We gave no chances to Fulham. We were strong, aggressive and intense. At times it was beautiful football. The first half was perfect.

"The second half was Ranieri's fault. He made two changes that improved his team and gave us problems that we didn't have in the first half. I also think there was some fatigue in some of my players. A few factors made the second half not as good as the first.

"We were intense without the ball and with the ball. Without the ball we pressed, we kept Mitrovic away from the goal. With the ball it was simple, one or two touches. We were really good.

"We needed it. The last three matches we didn't lose, but didn't win. Now we have two away matches, then two at home. Let's see if we can get more points from those matches.

"The players have shown they can be a better team than they are. When there is solidarity in the team, everyone giving their maximum, you attract more positive things."

Cardiff City

Cardiff captain Sean Morrison: "The win was the most important thing today and luckily we managed to do it.

"We know all our games are important. Our home form is going to be vital to our chances of staying up, so it’s a massively important three points.

"We just want to keep working hard. We need to improve our away form, we know that. We need to start picking up points away from home, but if we can keep getting points at home it gives ourselves a chance."

Arsenal

Arsenal manager Unai Emery, speaking to BBC Sport: "It was a tough match, like many matches, and today it is important because we didn't have rhythm but still won. I'm very happy with the result. It was hard for us to control the match today.

"Patience is the key word today. I wanted us to win more quickly but we needed to be patient.

"We can improve more and today we spoke that we want to win matches with more control. But we are very competitive and showed character."

West Ham United

West Ham goalscorer Robert Snodgrass speaking to the Premier League:

"It is hard, we know we weren’t at the races in the first half in terms of taking our chances but we passed it well and got three good goals. That is a magic win, a great win for the fans.

"When you lose the first four games at the start of the season, the fans wouldn’t be thinking we would score three in the last three games. But we must build on it as a team and stop conceding goals.

"I have been waiting a long time to score a Premier League goal for West Ham so to get it in that fashion and get the win is delightful.

"There are a lot of games and people in the squad that want to play so we will rotate like we did against Cardiff and the lads come in and do well. The manager is trying to build that momentum from the squad and it is working."

Manchester United

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata told Sky Sports: "It was the start that we needed. We know that we have to start better because it is not right to always be chasing the game. We need these performances more often. The fans today enjoyed it - that is the Manchester United that we want to see.

"It is not always easy to make sure you don't relax in the second half. They scored, that was as a shock for us, so we needed to score again. Overall, it was a good performance.

"I felt very good, especially in the first half. I thought we played with more intensity.

"Every game is really, really important. We cannot afford to lose a lot of points from now until the end of the season. We have a difficult task."

Dan: It’s not ‘Harsh’ on Huddersfield and no you don’t ‘have to feel for them’. Time wasting throughout the whole match should never be acceptable and they’ve got exactly what they deserve.

Burnley

Burnley goal scorer James Tarkowski, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a tough afternoon. We had to get a goal and hold on. We know we have not been playing great recently so it was a massive day and big three points.

"Our fans have been massive for us. We need them behind us."

Arsenal up to third (and above Spurs) as they go 21 games without defeat. Huddersfield drop into the bottom three.

Lossl sticks his head on the ball but it's nowhere near the goal. And then Arsenal break...

Huddersfield still haven't had that one chance. Now they have a free-kick and up goes Jonas Lossl....

West Ham quietly march on. 3-2 doesn't tell the story of how much better they were. Palace stay two points above the drop zone.

Burnley hang on. In the Lancashire rain, that is a very handy three points that will see them out of the bottom three.

The Cardiff City Stadium turns into a scene from Human Traffic as strobe lights fill the ground, seconds after the final whistle. Neil Warnock knows how to party.
