    After becoming the first club to register 7,000 top flight goals - when Yerry Mina headed in at Burnley - Everton are also set to reach another landmark this afternoon when they play their 4,500th top flight match.

    Marco Silva's side will be hoping for a similar result to their 3,000th game which was also against Brighton back on 7 October 1980.

    On that occasion Mick Lyons, Joe McBride and Steve McMahon were on target for the blues in a 3-1 win at Albion's former home, the Goldstone Ground.

    VAR is going to be a whole barrel of fun when it lands in the Premier League next season isn't it?

    Over in Italy, where the video system is already up and running, Serie A leaders Juventus have extended their advantage at the top to 12 points courtesy of a 2-1 win over Sampdoria.

    Sampdoria had a late equaliser ruled out through VAR. Juve's two goals - both scored by Cristiano Ronaldo - came courtesy of the system.

    On Friday, former Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood died at the age of 82.

    He became chairman in 1982 and presided over the appointments of George Graham and Arsene Wenger as managers and they won five league titles, five FA Cups, the League Cup and European Cup Winners' Cup between them.

    Ill health forced Hill-Wood to step down from the position in June 2013.

    Arsenal say he was also "instrumental" in the successful move from Highbury to Emirates Stadium in 2006.

    Declan Rice and West Ham's contract stand-off has reached a happy ending.

    The 19-year-old reportedly turned down a £40,000-a-week contract offer in September,, external apparently triggering interest from Manchester United.

    But West Ham have finally tied down their man to a new deal that runs until 2024.

    "I’m absolutely ecstatic. Without a doubt, the plan was always to stay at West Ham," said Rice.

    Could Dominic Solanke be a loan signing to pep up Huddersfield's attack?

    The 21-year-old England youth international could be shipped out of Liverpool for the rest of the season after failing to make a first-team appearance this season.

    At 6ft 2in tall, he could fit the mould that David Wagner seems to like with Steve Mounie and Laurent Depoitre (both 6ft 3in) on the books.

    Crystal Palace and Brighton are also interested though.

    Football's sliding doors moments are always intriguing.

    Before he moved from Roma to Liverpool at the start of last season, Mohamed Salah was offered to Paris St-Germain - then managed by current Arsenal boss Unai Emery.

    Emery decided against taking up the chance to sign the Egyptian.

    “We had some doubts and then he signed for Liverpool and these doubts he has broken at Liverpool,” Emery said.

    “Can he perform in a big team? For example like PSG in Paris. Today I can say to you if we sign him we sign a player in the top five in the world.”

    Manchester United take on Bournemouth tomorrow at Old Trafford and apparently caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has brought in his own surprise super-sub at Carrington today.

    The Daily Mail report, external that Sir Alex Ferguson will be at United training for the first time since a life-threatening brain haemorrhage in May.

    "I had the best teacher. The boss is and will always be the best, so my management involves around what I learned from him," said Solskjaer when asked about Ferguson's influence on his managerial style.
