  1. KICK-OFFpublished at 21:04 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2018

    Celtic 0-0 Salzburg

The second half is under way and Celtic have introduced club captain Scott Brown, with Scott Sinclair the player withdrawn.

Brown should add some bite in midfield and that should mean a four-man match-up in that area.

Too many Celtic players have been passengers - spectators actually. Rogic, I don't know what's wrong with him, he's had a bit of a horror show - we know the qualities he's got but everything's just gone wrong for him. But he's not the only one. Their passing has been just dreadful - I haven't seen Celtic play that bad in a long time.

  3. Hard to criticise players - Gerrardpublished at 21:02 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2018

    FT: Rapid Vienna 1-0 Rangers

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard praised his side for their "almighty effort".

"Obviously, as the game was getting to the final stages, we were trying to roll the dice and get a little more adventurous to try and create something to get that moment we needed at 0-0 and, unfortunately, we've conceded a counter attack," he told Rangers TV.

"But I think it is very hard for me to criticise the players for what they gave tonight.

"I felt we played very well for large parts of this game and the players deserve incredible praise for taking this group to the wire.

"I believe, if we were full-strength tonight, the situation might have been a little bit easier.

"But to come here against a good team and an organised team who were fit, very mobile and have experience at this level, I think what we had was just a little bit short.

"The idea now is to park the Europa League up and really focus on the league."

  4. Rapid deserved victory - Kuhbauerpublished at 21:00 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2018

    FT: Rapid Vienna 1-0 Rangers

Rapid Vienna head coach Dietmar Kuhbauer thinks his side deserved their victory over Rangers and qualification for the knock-out stage.

"We have won the game deservedly," he says. "I have to give the team huge praise.

"They kept going for 90 minutes and scored the winning goal and that speaks volumes for the group.

"The first half was as expected - very physical. In the second, we took more chances.

"Of course, we are happy about qualifying and it is a great success for us. The boys did a good job."

Absolutely correct that people are questioning why Mikael Lustig was allowed to play on after head knock (and possible unconsciousness). Replaced soon after. An issue for later.

As it stands, Celtic are through. That’s the good news.

The bad news is that they have to face another half of football against this very classy, dangerous Salzburg side.

It just hasn’t happened for the Scottish champions in this first half and Brendan Rodgers must be contemplating a change of shape. Celtic are being dominated in midfield. Tom Rogic and Odsonne Edouard have not been at their best. Ryan Christie and James Forrest have also been unable to make any real impact on this game. Somehow Celtic need to find a way to get on the front foot.

  8. Leipzig also levelpublished at 20:53 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2018

    HT: Celtic 0-0 Salzburg

In the other Group B game, it's also goalless in Leipzig.

We were all expecting a comfortable home win but Rosenborg are holding on.

If Leipzig finish the evening level on points with Celtic, it's the Germans who will take second place.

Celtic have had to work really hard in the first half. They've had none of the ball, and when they do win it back Salzburg are right over them like rashers. Salzburg have been comfortable in possession. They've dominated.

  10. HALF-TIME Celtic 0-0 Salzburgpublished at 45+3 mins

Celtic are still in it. Remember, all they need is a point to progress. However, the Scottish champions have been given a bit of chasing on their own turf so far.

  11. Postpublished at 45+2 mins

    Celtic 0-0 Salzburg

Scott Sinclair is at the heart of things as Celtic enjoy a better spell before the break. A defender slips and allows Tom Rogic to race into the box unattended but the pass from Sinclair is behind him. Moments later, and perhaps still frustrated, Sinclair powers a shot well wide.

  12. Postpublished at 45 mins

    Celtic 0-0 Salzburg

Three minutes of stoppage time are signalled by the fourth official as James Forrest scurries forward through the middle and threads a nice pass to Odsonne Edouard. Another poor touch from the big striker...

The defensive side of the game, I wonder whether Scott Sinclair and Tom Rogic enjoy that part of it. They like to be on the ball. They're normally on the ball but they'll have to put in a real shift tonight

  14. Postpublished at 42 mins

    Celtic 0-0 Salzburg

Celtic string a few passes together as Salzburg take a wee breather but Brendan Rodgers' side can't hold on to it for very long.

The possession stats say 68% for the visitors...

  15. Postpublished at 40 mins

    Celtic 0-0 Salzburg

James Forrest drives down the right and gets to the byline. The in-form Scotland winger hammers in a low cross and it just flashes past Scott Sinclair in front of goal.

That's got the home fans roaring with approval.

  16. 'Salzburg have perplexed Celtic tactically'published at 20:38 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2018

    Celtic 0-0 Salzburg

Former Celtic striker on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

I'm really impressed with Salzburg and what they've done so far. Tactically they've perplexed Celtic - Celtic don't have an answer for them right now. They cannot get on the ball and up the pitch.

  17. Postpublished at 35 mins

    Celtic 0-0 Salzburg

Tom Rogic has struggled with the frantic pace so far but that's much better from the big Aussie as he glides away from a couple of opponents and pings a long pass to into the feet of Odsonne Edouard but the Celtic striker's first touch lets him down.

  18. Celtic 'not getting their own way'published at 20:35 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2018

    Celtic 0-0 Salzburg

    Pat Bonner
Former Celtic goalkeeper on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

It's a real test for Celtic up against a team that are really, really pressing. They're not getting their own way when they're on the ball. When they play here they normally get a little bit more time, they can get the ball and pass it. They've got to be more assured when the ball comes to them

  19. 'Salzburg look like they own the place'published at 20:33 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2018

    Celtic 0-0 Salzburg

    Jonathan Sutherland
BBC Sport Scotland at Celtic Park

Celtic clearly fed off the supercharged atmosphere for the first few minutes but ever since Craig Gordon produced that super save from Zlatko Junuzovic after just four minutes it has all become very difficult indeed. RB Salzburg now stroking the ball around like they own the place, they are a very decent side. Right now they are making all the running, creating all the chances and they are stopping the Celtic midfield from playing their game.

  20. GREAT SAVE!published at 30 mins

    Celtic 0-0 Salzburg

What is Kristoffer Ajer thinking? A terrible pass across his own defence falls for Hannes Wolf and the Salzburg midfielder is straight through on goal, riding a lunging tackle from Jozo Simunovic, before his shot is blocked by the advancing Craig Gordon.
