  1. Gerrard repeats criticism of artificial surfacespublished at 19:41 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2019

    Kilmarnock v Rangers (19:45)

The last time Rangers were at Rugby Park they won 3-1 in the League Cup thanks to an Alfredo Morelos hat-trick. However, that victory was soured by a serious injury to Jamie Murphy.

The winger ruptured his his anterior cruciate ligament that day in August and will not play again this season.

Manager Steven Gerrard was none too happy with the artificial surface and repeated his concerns again yesterday, saying: I've already given my opinion on plastic pitches at the elite level of football and they should be nowhere to be seen."

    Hamilton v Aberdeen (19:45)

    Alasdair Lamont

Martin Canning and Hamilton Accies could do with a victory to restore some positivity after the unhappy scenes surrounding their Scottish Cup defeat by St Johnstone. They’ve gone six without a win in the league and sit just two points above St Mirren in the play-off position.

Aberdeen are right on the coat-tails of the league leaders and know that at least one of the clubs directly above them will drop points at Rugby Park tonight.

  3. Hastie 'has a wee bit of everything'published at 19:38 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2019

    Motherwell v Hibernian (19:45)

Stephen Robinson has "high hopes" for Motherwell teenager Jake Hastie, who starts tonight after spending the first half of the season on loan at Alloa Athletic.

"He can travel with the ball, he’s got pace, he’s got height – he’s got a wee bit of everything," the Fir Park boss told BBC Radio Scotland.

“We’re trying new things, giving young boys chances and asking the fans to be patient, but ultimately you have to get results while you’re doing that.

“We’ll be better for the Ross County game, the first 90 minutes in nearly four weeks. I’ve learned lessons from it as well."

  4. Celtic need to 'work out' opponentspublished at 19:37 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2019

    Celtic v St Mirren (19:45)

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers tells BBC Sportsound that Dedryck Boyata misses out tonight with a "tight groin" but thinks the defender will be back for the weekend. Anthony Ralston may be out for a longer time after twisting his ankle.

He continued: "For most teams coming here. They sit tight and deny us space. You always have to respect that game plan. It’s up to us to work it out. We have to work the ball quickly with lots of running off the ball and getting good quality into the box. It will be a tough game and we’ll have to take our opportunities when they come."

  5. Keeping up with Jonespublished at 19:35 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2019

    Kilmarnock v Rangers (19:45)

Both sets of fans will be keeping a close eye on Jordan Jones at Rugby Park since the speedy Killie winger has agreed a deal to join Rangers in the summer.

A boyhood Rangers fan, he came in for flak from some fans of the Ayrshire club after celebrating his impending move to Ibrox on Twitter.

Manager Steve Clarke got in front of the situation earlier this month, saying: "If fans boo Jordan, then they're booing me as well because, if I select Jordan, then they're criticising my selection."

Goalkeeper Cammy Bell made the switch from Killie to Rangers in 2013 after a pre-contract arrangement.

The 32-year-old, now at Partick Thistle, told BBC Scotland: "Jordan will be looking forward to moving to such a big club.

“He just needs to deal with whatever is thrown at him tonight. I am sure he will just put all that to the back of his mind. Now he has got his future sorted, he can concentrate on the second half of the season and using his good form to keep Kilmarnock as high up the league as they can."

  6. Hearts enjoy return of winning feelingpublished at 19:33 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2019

    Hearts v Dundee (19:45)

Hearts started the season in impressive form, which took them to the top of the Premiership, but a 3-0 League Cup semi-final defeat to Celtic at Murrayfield in October and a long injury list led to a slump during which they secured only one win from 10 games.

The 1-0 Scottish Cup win over Livingston on Sunday made it three wins in a row for the Jambos, who went into the break on a high after an Edinburgh derby success at Easter Road.

Can the Jambos make it four wins on the trot against a side they trounced 3-0 at Dens Park in October?

Dundee manager Jim McIntyre has been busy in the transfer market but the Dark Blues were pretty fortunate to draw at home with Championship side Queen of the South in the cup on Saturday and have only picked up four points on the road this season.

  8. Another midweek goal-fest at Fir Park?published at 19:29 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2019

    Motherwell v Hibernian (19:45)

A midweek tie at Fir Park under the lights with Hibs in town will always bring back memories of a remarkable 6-6 draw back in 2010.

There has been one Wednesday night game between these two in North Lanarkshire since then but that could only produce a mere seven goals in a 4-3 home victory in 2012.

Hibs have won the last three meetings, including a 3-0 at Easter Road on the opening day of the season and Neil Lennon's men eased back into things with a comfortable cup win over Elgin, while 'Well were dumped out at home by Ross County.

  9. How will Killie cope without Stewart?published at 19:27 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2019

    Kilmarnock v Rangers (19:45)

Third v second, with just one point separating the sides...

Kilmarnock are unbeaten in their past four home Premiership matches against Rangers (W2 D2) and picked up a point on their most recent visit to Ibrox.

Greg Stewart scored their equaliser that night but the forward has now moved on to Aberdeen after being recalled from his successful Rugby Park loan by Birmingham City.

The clever forward, who scored eight goals in 17 games, will be a big miss for the hosts.

Kilmarnock manager Steve Clarke says tonight he has "no issue" with the move despite saying earlier that it had a "slightly strange smell".

"If I could get another attacking player and a centre-back in this window, that would be great," says Clarke. "We've got a few options."

  11. 'Savage' transfer window for St Mirrenpublished at 19:21 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2019

    Celtic v St Mirren (19:45)

St Mirren manager Oran Kearney says the club still has work to do in the transfer market before the end of the window, despite a significant turnaround in players already.

"We’ve moved out quite a few players and we still have a bit of business to do before the end of the window," he said.

"At the last window at my last club, it was two out and two in; here it’s something like 15 out and six in so far.

"We’re getting there. It’s been a savage amount of work for myself and the other staff behind the scenes."

  12. Celtic in talks with winger Shvedpublished at 19:18 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2019

    Celtic v St Mirren (19:45)

    Martin Dowden
BBC Sport Scotland at Celtic Park

Brendan Rodgers confirms that Celtic are in talks with representatives of Karpaty Lviv winger Maryan Shved.

The 21-year-old is not in the Ukrainian side's squad for their winter training camp in Turkey this week.

The absence of Dedryck Boyata also sparked a flurry of journalistic interest given his contract is running down. However, Rodgers kicked that into touch saying the defender has a slight groin injury and will be back at the weekend.

It’s a tall task for Oran Kearney’s side. They may have held Celtic at home but their record at Celtic Park makes for grim reading.

1990 marks their last win and few would expect one tonight against the league leaders.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers makes two changes to the side that knocked Airdrieonians out of the Scottish Cup on Saturday.

Mikael Lustig and Kristoffer Ajer come into the starting line-up, with Anthony Ralston and Dedryck Boyata dropping out of the squad altogether.

St Mirren came from 2-0 down to win with 10 men against Alloa, and manager Oran Kearney makes one change for this game.

Striker Cody Cooke comes into the starting line-up, with Simeon Jackson dropping to the bench.
