  1. 'Thiney will support from midfield'published at 20:09 British Summer Time 7 June 2019

    France 0-0 South Korea

    Pat Nevin
Former Chelsea and Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's interesting to see the way the French have lined up.

They usually play a 4-2-3-1 and it is sort of like that tonight. Eugenie Le Sommer is actually playing over on the left but she'll cut in from there.

They have so many players who can attack. Kadidiatou Diani will be up there by herself but the likes of Gaetane Thiney will support from midfield.

Inside the first few minutes we've had one of those Icelandic Thunderclaps that became so popular here during the men's Euros of 2016, plus several rounds of 'allez les Bleus', with the fans behind each of the stands that are behind the goals bouncing up and down.

A huge scream went up when everyone thought Eugenie Le Sommer was about to score.

    France 0-0 South Korea

It's all France at the moment - which is no surprise seeing as they averaged a higher possession % than any other team at the European Championships in 2017.

Marion Torrent overlaps on the right and her cross causes all kinds of problems for keeper Kim Min-jung. She flaps at it but gets lucky when it bounces off Amandine Henry and out for a goalkick.

Amandine Henry looks fired up. She pounces on the ball and puts in a lovely cross from the left but striker Kadidiatou Diani can't control it.

Henry picks up the ball again on the edge of the box but her curling effort flies wide.

    France 0-0 South Korea

The French are lining up in an attacking 4-3-3 formation. Eugenie Le Sommer is a real threat on the left side.

South Korea have also gone for a 4-3-3. Ji So-yun is just sitting in that hole in midfield. She will drive forward when she can and has the ability to really take on defenders.

It's proper spine-tingling stuff now, this. The noise from the crowd is immense as they sing La Marseillaise! Some of the French team look pretty emotional. A couple to my right in the stands have tears in their eyes.

In the past two minutes it's quickly turned in to an absolutely fantastic atmosphere.

    I think I agree.

I think we are already starting to see change if you look at this stadium and the people tuning in.

But I want to see new fans after this tournament and I want people to realise women's football is here to stay.

Here they come! Amandine Henry has the hopes of a nation on her shoulders as she leads out the French team.

Behind her is the overpowering figure of Wendie Renard.

The South Korean team are led out by Cho Sohyun and I can just about see Chelsea striker Ji So-yun behind.

  15. A few stats to get your teeth into...published at 19:54 British Summer Time 7 June 2019

France v South Korea (20:00 BST)

France have won their opening game at the last two World Cup finals.

They have also won their last five matches in a row and won 13 of their last 14 games.

South Korea have lost their two previous opening matches at the finals (both to Brazil), failing to score and conceding five goals.

They have faced France in every World Cup they have played in - they lost in the group stage in Washington in 2003.

South Korea have lost four of their last seven games in all competitions and have conceded first in all seven of their World Cup matches.

They have never kept a clean sheet at the World Cup.

France v South Korea (20:00 BST)

Fifa has to get much more involved at grassroots level to really grow the women's game. Right now, there is just not enough support.

Hundreds of women wearing outfits representing the flags of each of the 24 nations competing in this tournament have run in to the middle of the stadium and they're doing a choreographed routine that appears to involve a lot of stretching, the sort of thing your PE teacher at school got you to do on an early winter morning. Knees up, knees up.

Anyway, the crowd seemed to love it. Meanwhile, in the centre circle, seven men dressed all in white are doing acrobatics.

Then comes the big finish, as around two thirds of the fans in the stands hold up coloured banners and fireworks go off along the touchline. The noise levels just keep rising as kick-off gets closer and closer.

    Alex Scott
    Ex-England international on BBC One

Ji So-yun is a magical player and very much the leader of this team. She is the all-time top goalscorer for her country and she can see the bigger picture when she gets the ball.

The Chelsea girls speak very highly of her and she has a cheeky personality which they love.

  19. Respect your elders!published at 19:49 British Summer Time 7 June 2019

France v South Korea (20:00 BST)

South Korean defender Hwang Boram is the oldest member of her squad and has been around the national team for 13 years.

She started two of their four games in 2015 but has not been capped since that year. It would be some moment for her if she made an appearance in France.

  20. 'She is a leader'published at 19:48 British Summer Time 7 June 2019

France v South Korea (20:00 BST)

    Hope Solo
Former US goalkeeper and World Cup winner on BBC One

It would be an honour as a goalkeeper to play behind Wendie Renard. She is a leader and she is great in the air. She scores goals and she is a player that every team would want to have in their team.
