There's people doing fancy back flips and ridiculously impressive dance routines on the pitch while two French women entertain the crowd with a song.

Sounds like they're singing "glory" but my French isn't all that.

Amandine Henry had a back spasm after getting out of the shower and people feared she would not be fit.

She's probably the most important player in the France team. She is the one of who dictates the play in midfield, is so important with experience and she's the one who makes the link to attack.

As the atmosphere builds in the stands, French musician Jain is about to perform during the opening ceremony.

One of my international colleagues says she's something of 'French Jess Glynne'. We'll soon find out...

Bonsoir from the south of France, where England and Scotland will start their campaign on Sunday in Nice.

Not to rub it in but the weather has been outstanding...if you're a holiday maker. It's probably a bit sweaty for training and game prep, I imagine.

But the Lionesses will thank their lucky stars they're not already in Le Havre, where they'll play their second game against Argentina next week.

Organisers have had to shut down the fan park in the city, where tonight's game was going to be broadcast, because of the horrendous weather that's forecast.

France v South Korea (20:00 BST)

The French may have the biggest names but South Korea also have some talent. The one to watch is their country's all-time top scorer Ji So-yun.

Ji, who plays in the English Women's Super League with Chelsea, has made over 100 caps for South Korea - the second most in the squad.

She has scored nine goals in her last 11 internationals and has won two WSL titles since joining Chelsea in 2014.

I'm looking forward to seeing this French side because they look so big and imposing but the South Koreans can really play so it is going to be evenly matched?

France v South Korea (20:00 BST)

It was heart-break for South Korea. After reaching the knock-out stages for the first time, they were beaten 3-0 in the last 16 by France, today's opponents.

Two goals in the first eight minutes did the damage and Marie-Laure Delie grabbed her second in the 47th minute to confirm a French win.

Will the South Koreans fare any better this year?

England's Alex Scott, who played in three World Cups, is joined by American Hope Solo - a world champion four years ago - and ex-England striker Dion Dublin for BBC in Paris.

Gabby Logan is in charge of the presenting duties. A star-studded panel!

  11. Star player - Wendie Renard (France)published at 19:34 British Summer Time 7 June 2019

France v South Korea (20:00 BST)

Experienced centre-back Wendie Renard is like the Virgil van Dijk of the French team. She's tall (the tallest at the World Cup, in fact), commanding and is a true leader at the heart of France's defence.

Renard, who captain's European champions and club side Lyon, was named in the 2015 World Cup All Star Team.

Her last international goal was an injury time winner against England in the 2017 SheBelieves Cup (gulp!).

She has a trophy cabinet which even Lionel Messi would raise an eyebrow at and it includes 12 league titles and five Champions Leagues. Impressive stuff!

Many members of the media who are here tonight have become a bit cranky, after enduring queues of up to an hour to get through the single file, airport-style security to access the media section of the stadium.

And while the organisers will hope to speed that process up for the remaining 51 matches in this tournament, the packed nature of this press box is a sign of how much interest there is in the competition around the world.

Thankfully for the fans, it appears their entrances have been much better-staffed, but security remains tight. Armed police are guarding all the access routes and adjacent roads. They aren't taking any risks.

This French squad is bursting with talent and they have seven players who have recently won a fourth successive Champions League title with Lyon.

Fourth. In a row. Like, that's just insane!

Keep an eye out for any of these players tonight, including key defender Wendie Renard and playmaker Eugenie Le Sommer.

    Goalkeeper: Sarah Bouhaddi

Defenders: Amel Majri, Griedge Mbock Bathy, Wendie Renard

    Midfielders: Amandine Henry

Forwards: Delphine Cascarino, Eugenie Le Sommer

France are one of the favourites but you can't overlook the USA, they have been there and done it and are the number one team in the world. They know how to win and how to win a World Cup time after time it is all ingrained in their mentality as footballers.

    France haven't done that yet.

After that Germany are similar in that respect. It's going to be exciting because I think it is anyone's title.

It's a sell-out crowd at the Parc des Princes tonight and we're hearing there are a few issues with queuing.

The fans will be keen to get inside soon - they don't want to miss the opening ceremony! Hopefully they have their running shoes on and can get in quickly.

Out on the streets of Paris, fans have been battling through heavy downpours of rain and some strongs gusts of wind to reach the Parc des Princes, which we're expecting to be completely full tonight.

Here inside the ground, the French compere is repeatedly attempting to get the fans who arrived early to start a Mexican wave... Yes, a Mexican wave, before the tournament has even started! Surely society won't allow it?

  19. 'France are the most talented team'published at 19:22 British Summer Time 7 June 2019

France v South Korea (20:00 BST)

France is a home away from home for England full-back Lucy Bronze, who plays her club football for Olympique Lyonnais.

She gave us the lowdown on what to expect from the French national team who, like England, are among the favourites for the World Cup.

"They are probably the most talented team in terms of football ability," said Bronze.

"They have some of the best players in the world - and a lot of them, not just one or two.

"We've always said that about them, for as long as I can remember. They have always been a talented team that has the expectation and potential to win, and I don't think this year is any different. They will be honing in on the home support like we do at Lyon.

"The support we have at Lyon is going to be crazy and it's going to be multiplied by 10 for the French team, for sure."
