    England v Scotland (17:00 BST)

England and Scotland are joined in Group D by Japan and Argentina.

The Lionesses lost to Japan in the semi-finals in 2015 but thrashed them 3-0 in March to win the SheBelieves Cup for the first time.

Those two teams are expected to battle for places at the top of the group but Scotland are no pushovers.

With victories in four of their last five matches, Scotland are in good shape and wins over Brazil and Denmark were particularly impressive.

Argentina, ranked 37th in the world, are the weakest team on paper and were beaten convincingly by fellow World Cup teams New Zealand, Australia and South Korea in the build-up to the tournament.

If you really want to get pumped, tune into BBC One now for a repeat of the England's World Cup Lionesses documentary. There's about half an hour left.

  4. The rising pedigreespublished at 15:31 British Summer Time 9 June 2019

    England v Scotland (17:00 BST)

England are regulars on the world stage. It is their fifth tournament and they came to France as the third ranked team in the world.

That ranking and the fact they finished third at the 2015 World Cup in Canada, has made them one of the bookies' favourites.

Victory at the SheBelieves Cup in the US back in March further raised their pedigree, though a few shaky performances in recent warm-up games has slightly unnerved supporters.

There's no short of confidence from the Scottish side though. Despite being ranked 17 places below England and making their debut at the World Cup, Scotland are on a roll.

Unbeaten in five and four wins, including a historic one over Brazil in April, has really raised an eyebrow as Scotland's improvement under Shelley Kerr continues to soar.

They are a completely different side to the one who suffered a 6-0 defeat by England in the group stages of the 2017 European Championship.

Nice is the setting but there will be nothing nice about this game. They are rivals and they are both here to win.
