    Everton 1-0 Arsenal

Idrissa Gueye has just had a shot that ended up going out for a throw further up the field than where he struck it. Wild.

Good from Everton though, breaking down the right through Richarlison and looking dangerous.

Arsenal's defenders don't look comfortable on the ball, with bringing it out, playing it out, and that's key to Arsenal's game.

They're being closed down. It's all about the work-rate from Everton's attacking players, they're making it difficult for Arsenal's defence.

    Everton 1-0 Arsenal

Ainsley Maitland-Niles' shot is blocked and Everton can break, but Sokratis hauls down Dominic Calvert-Lewin to stop the Toffees' attack.

    He goes into the book.

Kurt Zouma on a marauding run. Never really looked like he had it under control but wins Everton a throw-in high up the pitch nonetheless.

Lucas Digne territory... it worked last time.

Arsenal recover, but the Gunners just can't keep hold of the ball at the moment.

Daniel Potter: If Everton go on to win this the race for 7th is going to very exciting and don't rule West Ham out either - great for Premier league this. Spurs Fan.

Little bit feisty early on at Goodison Park.

Everton hunting the ball back quickly when they lose it as Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi is dispossessed in his own half.

Marco Silva will be delighted with his side's start.

Am I the only one to notice Digne's foot was a foot over the line?? Linesman should see that.

    Ben, London

Another game, another example of how VAR will improve things next season. clearly a foul throw by Digne.

Great covering from Sokratis to deny Andre Gomes a run on goal after Bernard nonchalantly flicks the a pass through his legs and into his team-mate's path as it drops out of the Merseyside sky.

Gomes catches the Arsenal defender... the visitors aren't happy.

Rob Elmore: Foul throw before the goal. Stepped on to the pitch.

Jon Carter: Was that not an obvious foul throw? Foot well over the line by Digne??? Schoolboy stuff going unnoticed.

Tadeusz Woroniecki: Fully agree with Alan Green about how referees should punish defenders for grappling in the penalty area. Ridiculous that they give penalties for accidental hand balls and light accidental pushes but not for blatant foul play. Totally devalues the idea of fair play.

Mesut Ozil with a short corner, but Arsenal make a mess of it and Everton get a goal kick - frustration on the German's face.

How can Unai Emery's side respond here? He's out in his technical area barking some orders, puffer coat half unzipped a la predecessor Arsene Wenger.

Luke: How is that a yellow card for Guendouzi on DIgne and Lacazette did not get a penalty? Both late challenges after the ball had gone? Friend looking dodgy already.. VAR asap.

What a pass from Lucas Digne - pinging a left-foot crossfield ball into the path of Richarlison, only the Brazil forward can't bring it down.

It falls to Andre Gomes, but he fires high, wide and not at all handsomely into the stand behind the goal.

This is all about how Arsenal react now, because of all the troubles they've had away from home.

If they're going to get top four then they'd want at least a point here but, actually, they should expect three from this game.

That was Phil Jagielka's first Premier League goal since April 2017, when he scored against Burnley.

And, at 36 years and 233 days, he is the oldest player to score in the English top flight this season.

That's the second time they've played that throw-in, from the same place. There was plenty of height and distance on it, the ball's nodded down and I don't think it was offside.

Phil Jagielka has timed his run well, there was complete confusion in the defence, and it's 1-0 Everton. It may be route one but it worked.

Arsenal's run of not keeping a clean sheet away from home this season continues...

They are the only side in the top four tiers of English football yet to keep a clean sheet on the road in the league.

    How about that!

Phil Jagielka, only brought into the team as a late replacement, pokes in from close range after another Lucas Digne long throw causes carnage in the Arsenal box.

Richarlison threw a leg at it, Dominic Calvert-Lewin headed it towards goal and Jagielka was there to pounce.

    Tactical change?!

That's not good news for Matteo Guendouzi because he is an all-action player, he likes to put tackles in, so that's going to affect his game from here on in.

Lucas Digne is back for Everton. The Frenchman skips down the left and wins a throw.

Fancies his chances at a long one, too - the old 'Rory Delap' - Everton think Kurt Zouma was pushed by Shkodran Mustafi in the box, as both players fail to connect with the ball and it bounces over the Arsenal crossbar.

  20. YELLOW CARDpublished at 5 mins

    Everton 0-0 Arsenal

    Good start to this game.

Arsenal break at pace again as Mesut Ozil combines with Ainsley Maitland-Niles down the right, before Matteo Guendouzi catches Lucas Digne with a late tackle.

Right on the top of the left-back's foot, looked painful.

The Gunners midfielder finds himself in the book.
