Former Arsenal striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's as good a side as Unai Emery can put out here to get a result. Arsenal have had no clean sheets away from home and it's Mesut Ozil's first away start since Boxing Day so I'm hoping he can kick in and do something today.

Arsenal are now around fourth spot. I'm not going to act like I thought we'd get that at the start of the season, I'd have been happy with sixth in Unai Emery's first season, but now they're in a position where they can take advantage.

This is the first of five Premier League away games before the end of the season for the Gunners, who have found it tricky on the road so far this term.

Still to come after today as they look for a top-four finish...

    • v Watford (away)
    • v Crystal Palace (home)
    • v Wolves (away)
    • v Leicester (away)

Here's how it stands before kick-off...

After Tottenham beat Crystal Palace in midweek, the Gunners have a chance to jump back above their north London rivals into third place.

A win on Merseyside today would also take them three points clear of fifth-placed Chelsea.

  11. Another 'big six' scalp?published at 13:51 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

A 2-0 win over Chelsea last month was Everton's first against one of the Premier League's 'big six' sides in 26 attempts dating back more than two years.

Toffees boss Marco Silva is determined to not let a streak like that happen again, but does not see the win as a pivotal moment for his side.

"When we won the game against Chelsea, our obligation as a club and as a manager was to do everything we can to win," he said.

"Two years is too many, a big number of games, but it is in the past and it is not important to talk about that game.

"It is the same mentality (against Arsenal) as when we played the last match against West Ham and the same mentality as the second half we played against Chelsea.

"I can say, also, it is the same mentality as some of the away games we played against some of the top sides this season. "We didn't win but in some of them we were close to achieving a good result."

Here's one for the Arsenal fans...

Laureano Bisan Etame-Mayer (or Lauren, as we know him in England) would go on to be a regular member of one of the great teams of the modern era.

But before playing his part in Arsenal's Invincibles season of 2003-04, the defender had led a life far removed from many Premier League players.

His family fled political persecution, food was at a premium and he had to ask a kit man for his big break.

Fifteen years on from one of football's great achievements, when Arsenal became the first team in the modern era to go through an English top-flight season unbeaten, the former Cameroon full-back sat down with Spanish football writer Guillem Balague to discuss all those things and more, and you can read the full interview here.

Everton and boss Marco Silva has had to deal with an off-field distraction this week.

A video published on social media appeared to show Everton and England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford involved in a street fracas outside a Sunderland pub.

"No-one is happy with the situation - it was not a good thing," said Silva, who added his players had "duties and obligations" and the club would need to remind Pickford of what they are.

"If you ask me as a manager I am not happy with what happened," he added.

"Everything we must do we already did. It is my expectation it won't happen again.

"The first chat of the week I was clear with [Pickford]. Everything is clear in his mind about his obligations.

"The matter is finished in this moment."

  16. 'A long way to go' for Gunnerspublished at 13:38 British Summer Time 7 April 2019

    EmeryImage source, PA

Arsenal head coach Unai Emery: "For us it's a big challenge. We want to achieve the same good performances as when we play at Emirates Stadium.

"We have confidence now but we know it's very difficult and I think it's a long way until the last matches.

"Each match is worth three points, like Sunday against Everton, which is the most important. We know other clubs will take a lot of points."

In former-Blues player news... Wayne Rooney was sent off for the first time in his Major League Soccer career during his DC United side's defeat against Los Angeles FC.

Rooney was dismissed for a wild lunge with both feet off the ground which caught LA striker Diego Rossi just below the knee with his studs.

The former Manchester United and England captain was initially shown a yellow card but after a VAR check, the referee changed his decision to red.

DC United were losing 3-0 at the time.

Rossi had scored LA's second and third goals, with former Arsenal striker Carlos Vela opening the scoring, and he completed his hat-trick in the 76th minute after Rooney had been sent off.

It is the seventh red card of Rooney's career for club and country and his first since September 2014.

Sterling was praised for repeatedly speaking out against racism in football and presented with his award at a ceremony in London.

"He is undoubtedly one of the UK's most thrilling talents," said awards founder Arun King from charity Sporting Equals.

"He is a trailblazer in his fight against racism. We are proud that he has become an iconic British sports star who represents so much for BAME communities and the entire sporting community, and will do for generations to come."

Sterling said the award was a "massive honour".
