Watford need a minute to stem the pressure and they find it with some composed possession of their own. That lifts the fans in yellow again. No room to breathe out there though as City hound them into an error.

Mahrez again on the ball, he wants Kyle Walker to come and overlap him but the England man doesn't. Mahrez then overhits a cross and Watford's back four won't mind that at all.

Riyad Mahrez is the early danger man, he has the beating of Jose Holebas every time and sees another cross well cleared. Heurelho Gomes comes for a corner and rather flaps at it but gets away with it...

When you have this much ball it is only a matter of time before you will have efforts on goal. Watford have to try something different, City will be loving this.

The Watford fans aren't happy and you can understand why - they have a good counter on the cards but referee Kevin Friend gives them a free-kick.

    No advantage there at all...

  7. Under-rated Ederson?published at 17:13 British Summer Time 18 May 2019

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Wembley

For all the plaudits Manchester City's football has received this season, goalkeeper Ederson has been absolutely magnificent and came to the rescue again there.

The Brazilian is lightning fast off his line and brave in the physical challenges. Superb piece of goalkeeping to stop Roberto Pereyra.

Watford worked that beautifully. It's a big moment but Ederson gets himself into a great position to make a vital save.

It's one one of those afternoons where you have to ask: How many of those chances can Watford afford to miss?

Pereyra hasn’t scored this year and you can tell. At this level you should score.

City respind in kind as Bernardo Silva has a low shot easily held by Heurelho Gomes. The Watford fans close to my seat here are still in disbelief at that chance...

  12. GREAT SAVE!published at 11 mins

    Manchester City 0-0 Watford

HUGE save! Watford are so close to taking a shock lead as they counter-attack, Gerard Deulofeu is the lightning rod down the right, he has Roberto Pereyra streaking through the middle and finds him. A sound first touch, lifts his head - and Ederson is already in his face.

The Brazilian spreads himself and makes the save. A massive moment for Watford...

It's a good start by Watford. They don't look like a team playing with any fear. The minute they lose the ball they revert back into shape and break up the attacks.

Nothing wrong with that. Play to your strengths. David Silva overhits his first pass since 2008 as he tries to play in Raheem Sterling down the left.

Troy Deeney has flicked on a few headers, he's beaten Vincent Kompany and Kyle Walker already, and there have been runners in behind. So maybe that is Watford's tactic.

I'm looking at Watford, it looks like they are going to drop off into a 4-5-1 formation when City have the ball. But they cannot do that all game and allow City time to pick a pass, as they will score.

Very lively start to the game with both sides looking to attack at pace when they get on the ball. Gabriel Jesus is back inside his own half to start a City move though - I still can't believe they've left Sergio Aguero on the bench.
