Steven Jerjian: For all City's obvious qualities, it's a truly terrible goal for Watford to concede after allowing Sterling and David Silva to play head tennis in the box.

Steve: Kevin Friend and Andre Marriner maintaining their poor standards. Clear handball, and then miss the push by David Silva for the goal.

Watford are doing just that. I don't think anyone with a Hertfordshire connection could have any complaints so far. Even if Etienne Capoue does nearly cause a few health scares as he takes on Bernardo Silva and dribbles out from his own area...

Watford should just go and play now and say to themselves ‘what have we got to lose?'

David SIlva must be close to getting a statue, surely?

An absolute legend. You could do a Mount Rushmore style cast of him in each of his three haircuts...

That goal came from nothing really. It's a great strike by David Silva and he kept it down.

Silva has been a huge player for Manchester City over the years and that will have felt beautiful for him.

A big few minutes coming up for Watford.

Jack Strawberry: That was coming. Watford look dodgy at the back and have done from the off.

Darren: A collective sigh of ‘well that’s that then’ across most of the country...hope I’m wrong Watford have played well.

I thought Watford had weathered the storm and played their way into the game. But Doucoure gets caught in possession terribly and you can't do that against a quality side.

The City machine has kicked into gear and Watford are rather clinging on as another corner is only half dealt with and Riyad Mahrez slams a shot over the bar.

What a miss this looks now.

The Hornets hit Manchester City on the break and Ederson does well to prevent Roberto Pereyra's shot from going into the net.

GOAL - Manchester City 1-0 Watfordpublished at 26 mins

Club legend! Never have I been more pleased to be sitting directly in front of a Spanish radio commentator. GOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!

Raheem Sterling heads the ball on, David Silva is onside and his shot deflects off the boot of Kiko Femenia and kisses the back of the net.

Watford's task just got considerably tougher.

Wembley looks rammed to the gills full to me - but the dreaded prawn sandwich area is away to my left, hidden from sight. Just move the cameras to the other side!

City are now having another spell as Ederson then clears from near the halfway line. It's noticeable just how high the whole City team are playing.

Del: What a disgrace to real fans that half the prawn sandwich seats are still empty 20 minutes in.

Nick: Absolutely sickening to see the corporate seats empty when City and Watford fans can't get enough tickets. Presumably they are making use of the usual free drink and food. Very insulting!

    Phil McNulty

Nothing cagey about this Watford start. They are right on the front foot and have given Manchester City anxious moments - and the noise from their fans at Wembley tells you they like what they are seeing.

They will want to cash in while they have this momentum.

Both sides feeling hard done by. Heurelho Gomes comes for yet another Riyad Mahrez cross, doesn't get there, and Raheem Sterling is close to turning it in but it's cleared. He's then pinged for a foul in the process...

  18. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 21 mins

    Manchester City 0-0 Watford

Not one, but two penalty appeals for Watford! First Roberto Pereyra goes to ground under what looked like a good challenge - and then Abdoulaye Doucoure has a follow-up shot blocked by Vincent Kompany.

Handball? Hit him on the elbow. From a yard away...
