The riches on offer to these two teams are a major incentive to gain promotion to the Premier League, with £170m of central funding through television rights and other boosts for just being there.

However, former Villa boss Paul Lambert told BBC Radio 5 Live that that won't mean so much to the players, who just want to be in the top flight.

"Everyone knows it's a one-off game, it's not just the finances, it's about the prestige," he said. "Villa and Derby have had their fair share of disappointments, but for the players it's only about prestige.

"For everyone around the football club - the finances are important but the footballers the kudos is being in the Premier League."

Lambert's old club were beaten at this stage last season, losing 1-0 to Fulham to miss out on a return to the elite level.

"The lads who played in that last game, they will have that Fulham defeat in their minds," Lambert added.

"You play the game not the occasion, the better team will certainly win whoever handles that."

Frank Lampard's mission at the start of this season was merely to stabilise, so to find his Derby side within 90 minutes of the Premier League marks a remarkable first campaign in the job for the former England midfielder.

He used his contacts wisely to bring in talent such as Mason Mount and Fikayo Timori from old club Chelsea, as well as the smart acquisitions of Liverpool's Harry Wilson on loan and the signing of Jack Marriott from Peterborough.

Having flitted around the top six for much of the season, Derby had to sweat until the final day of the season for their spot, and saw off old foes Leeds in the play-off semis.

Can the Rams secure promotion ahead of schedule? You wouldn't bet against serial winner Lampard continuing his Wembley run.

Aston Villa's season looked like it was tail-spinning out of control when Steve Bruce was sacked as manager in October.

The Championship play-offs were far from most Villa fans' thoughts after dropping to 15th, on a run of one win in nine games, and the appointment of boyhood fan Dean Smith was not an immediate success.

Following the Boxing Day win against Swansea, Villa only won one more game - against bottom-side Ipswich - before late February.

However, the season turned on a 4-0 thumping of today's opponents Derby, and after 10 straight wins, Villa forced their way into the play-off picture.

Having finally ensconced themselves in the top six, they negotiated the tricky derby hurdle of West Brom in the semis. The big hope for Villa fans is that they have enough momentum left to finish the job.

  4. 'Play with freedom'published at 14:21 British Summer Time 27 May 2019

Aston Villa v Derby County (15:00 BST)

Derby manager Frank Lampard wants his side to play without fear.

"However much the game is worth is not something that we can be in control of," the 40-year-old told BBC Radio Derby.

"I really want them to enjoy it. I played in finals and big games that I didn't enjoy and moments passed me by and I don't want that to happen to them.

"I want them to play with freedom. We can win this game or we could lose this game but as long as the players give everything I'll be proud and the fans will be."

In the pre-match presser, Villa boss Dean Smith said his players had the chance to do something special.

"The players have the chance to take an opportunity forward and become icons at Aston Villa," the 48-year-old told BBC WM.

"We've been playing must-win games for the past 15 or 16 games now and Monday will be no different."

It's safe to say supporters of both these clubs feel they should be in the Premier League.

Derby haven't been in the top flight since that fateful 2007-08 campaign when they went down with 11 points.

Villa have spent three seasons in the Championship following relegation in 2016.

So Villa go with the experience of Albert Adomah over the speed of Andre Green on their right to go up against Derby veteran Ashley Cole.

From what I gather, Cole hasn't trained with the team that much over the past couple of weeks in order to work on getting match-fit for this game.

Can the 38-year-old roll back the years for one last hurrah at Wembley?

Xoft: If the winner is going to bag a whopping £170m, please how much did the first and second position already promoted to the Premier League make?

Well Xoft, it's about the same! That figure relates to the increase in revenue for clubs promoted to the top flight. It rises to a minimum of £300m if those clubs avoid immediate relegation back to the Championship, according to financial experts Deloitte.
