I was walking down Olympic Way at 11:45 BST and it was already really busy with fans from both teams singing, taking photos and enjoying the sun.

Derby's fans will be in the same end as Tranmere's were on Saturday, while Villa are in the end occupied by Charlton supporters yesterday.

No lucky omens to see here.

So, it's good news for Villa fans if you do indeed look at the success of returning finalists.

But 12 months ago it felt like the end of the world for many.

Tom Cairney's first-half goal saw Fulham beat them to win promotion to the Premier League.

Three generations of one family of Derby season-ticket holders are “confident-ish” of a Wembley win for the Rams today.

The youngest, Rhys, and dad Spencer made the trip down from Newark, via Peterborough, where 80-year-old Terry joined the outing.

Rhys said: “We’re all nervous. But it’s been a great season whatever happens. We’ve all enjoyed the football we have played under Frank Lampard.”

Grandad Terry, who remembers Derby winning the 1946 FA Cup final and had been a fan ever since, said: “We will have a good day and make the most of a trip to Wembley. And hopefully we won’t get a repeat of the play-off game against QPR.”

Sunday's League One play-off final saw Charlton return to the second tier for the first time since 2016.

Patrick Bauer's 94th-minute winner capped an afternoon of twists and turns which began when Naby Sarr's backpass went under Addicks keeper Dillon Phillips to give Sunderland the lead.

More from Harry Redknapp, who thinks Derby manager Frank Lampard's vast experience of Wembley occasions with Chelsea and England will help his players.

"He knows the place inside out," the 72-year-old said. "He'll be calm and cool, they've got a great man in charge and it'll be great for the club.

"They've kept knocking on the door and everything's in place. Hopefully this is the year for them."

Aston Villa v Derby County (15:00 BST)

Harry Redknapp was the QPR manager when his Rangers team beat Derby in the 2014 play-off final, but he thinks today could be the Rams' day.

He told BBC Radio Derby: "They're two evenly matched teams. Villa have struck great form, their run has been amazing.

"But Derby as well - I went to the first Leeds game (in the play-offs) and I couldn't see any way for them to get through, but the second leg was an amazing performance.

"Wembley will suit Derby - they've got players who like space and time on the ball."
