    Liverpool 2-0 Norwich

Marco Stiepermann had hit a couple of duff shots earlier but not this time as he finds a pocket of space outside the box and rifles one at goal. It's got the power but is too close to Alisson, who thumps away. This is a decent spell for Norwich, though.

Max Aarons does well to keep a ball down the right alive. The ball is eventually worked to Emiliano Buendía just outside the box and the midfielder shoots, but it lacks power and Alisson gathers.

Mo Salah has that confidence to slow the game down when you get into the box. All the great strikers do it, they make time stand still and it's that little touch that sucks the defender in and brings the keeper out that little bit more to open the angle up.

There is a carnival atmosphere inside Anfield. Liverpool are playing like they have never been away and look like they are going to score each time they venture into Norwich's penalty area. This is turning into a damage-limitation exercise already for the Canaries.

Suddenly Teemu Pukki is in on goal! He tries to lift the ball over Allison but the Liverpool keeper manages to make the save. It's all academic anyway because Pukki was offside. Only just though.

Liverpool's attack is its usual deadly self but the defence has given the home side a couple of nervous moments.

It all comes from the ball by Joe Gomez, a lovely ball down the right to Trent Alexander-Arnold. It takes the Norwich defenders out of the game completely. Alexander-Arnold finds Salah in the middle and he gets a bit fortunate with the ricochet but then it's a great ball by Firmino. And Salah does what Salah does, he just opens up and finds the far corner.

    Account opened!

Norwich are getting a harsh lesson in life as a Premier League team as Liverpool double their lead.

The visitors have multiple chances to clear a ball as it pings about inside the area but they pay the price for their hesitancy as Firmino feeds Mo Salah and the forward coolly fires into the bottom corner.

It's been a similar situation all pre-season for Liverpool, they've looked vulnerable at the back. Again there were flaws in the back four.

But good signs from Norwich though, that they're growing into the match and showing their attacking instinct.

    Liverpool 1-0 Norwich

Teemu Pukki is looking a threat when Norwich do get forward. He puts a ball across the face of goal but there's no-one in yellow there to tap in. Liverpool then break quickly before Andy Robertson bends an effort just over.

Seventeen minutes in and it has been quiet open. Entertaining stuff so far and definitely more goals in this one.

Divock Origi is enjoying himself down the left, can't say the same for Max Arrons who has the task of trying to deal with him. Origi gets the better of the fullback to put in a cross, it is a good one, but Ben Godfrey heads clear.

Norwich do pass the ball around nicely when they have the chance - lots of quick one, touch football - but they also do look nervous.

Thomas Knights: 8 minutes into the season and already seen a fantastic application for worst piece of defending of the season, never boring.

Michael Ball: It took all of six-and-a-half minutes for the Liverpool Luck to start this season. Longer than I expected.

Michael Reid: Who'd have put their money on newly promoted Norwich scoring the first goal of the season! Excellent finish, left the keeper with no chance...

There was a pause for a moment before Anfield let out a collective yell of delight. A horrible moment for Canaries skipper Grant Hanley and Liverpool's season is up and running. The Kop responds by chanting Divock Origi's name.

This is what we saw from Norwich in the Championship. It was lovely link-up play but he just gets his shot completely wrong.

Norwich have an immediate opportunity to make amends though as a nice passage of play involving Jamal Lewis and Todd Cantwell ends with Teemu Pukki teeing up Marco Stiepermann on the edge of the area but he gets his shot all wrong again and the ball floats well over.

That was the worry you had for Norwich. He just needs to be calm, he just needs to put his foot through it. He fears there's a man behind him and it comes off the outside of his boot and goes into the corner.

    Disaster for Norwich!

Grant Hanley has his head in his hands and you can't blame him after a shock lapse in concentration gifts the hosts the lead.

It comes about as a result of a Divock Origi cross from the left. The clearance should be routine but Hanley gets it all wrong and the ball spins off his boot and into his own net.

That's what Mo Salah brings, that fear to defenders with that pace over the top. He's been out, he's had that three-week rest so is he as fit and as sharp as everyone else?

A mosaic appears on the Kop as the game gets underway celebrating Liverpool's sixth European Cup. Anfield is awash with colour. Norwich's fans are decked out in their team's colours of yellow while the rest of Anfield is a sea of red.

There was a nice embrace and chat between the two German managers before kick-off too. This is Daniel Farke's first Premier League game as a boss.

First shot of the game... is by Norwich!

It comes from a surprising error by Alisson as he hits a pass straight to Teemu Pukki. The Norwich forward gets into the area and cuts the ball back for Marco Stiepermann, who fires well over.
