    H. Lalrinpuia: ·Man Utd rode luck. The scoreline does not reflect the game. Plenty of positives from Chelsea play. But both teams are not at the same level as Man City and Liverpool. These two teams can destroy Chelsea and Man Utd.

Benji: Lindelof just needed a quality CB next to him and he's got that in Harry Maguire. He's already showed me things on his debut that Smalling, Jones and Bailly have never showed me the whole time they've been there... He actually knows what he's doing back there. Beast.

  3. 'Winning is a habit'published at 19:29 British Summer Time 11 August 2019

    Man Utd 4-0 Chelsea

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, speaking to Match of the Day: "4-0 you cant dream of more or expect more but then again we are working on improving as a team and finding a style that suits us a team. We still need time but it is coming.

"Team spirit has been fantastic. We started 1 July as the aim to get as many players fit for this game. We had everybody bar Eric Bailly fit. There are a lot of disappointed players who wanted to be part of this start. But they wanted to be here and they are happy to be part of a winning start.

"Winning is a habit. We are lucky to go in 1-0 up but in second half our nerves settled, our confidence grew."

On debutants Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka: "I know them well enough just by now. Not long, but I can see they are not phased by the price-tags. Football has gone crazy but that is just the market., They have cool heads on their shoulders. Harry has played with many of these players before. When you are a good player you fit in straight away.

On Daniel James: "It was a big moment for him. He has had a tough summer and some ups and downs in life so I am happy for his debut goal."

  6. 'We need to be better in both boxes'published at 19:19 British Summer Time 11 August 2019

    Man Utd 4-0 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta: "The first half was better than to be 1-0 down, but today we were not able to score or keep a clean sheet. They are the most important parts of the pitch.

"It went away from us in both boxes, we were not clinical enough, it is up to us to improve in that part of the pitch.,

"We knew at 1-0 we could still be in the game but to concede the second and the third within 20 seconds of the restart was hard.

"We tried to push after that, we know they are dangerous on the counter attack and gave them more space."

On whether it will be hard for Chelsea to forget about this result and bounce back: "We don't have time to think a lot, we know the high levels we have to meet in the Premier League and we go straight to the Super Cup against a good team in Liverpool on Wednesday.

"We want to win a trophy and we need to give everything."

Josh Earl: Rashford & Martial among the goals, Pogba with two brilliant assists. Performance not the best but the result was most important, hopefully the performances will improve in the coming weeks, too!

Imti Jamir: The result has been harsh on Chelsea and Lampard. I never saw that coming from Man United even if they have signed the world's most expensive CB. Chelsea at least deserves a point if not three after superior possession and shots on target.

Steve Cummins:We rode our luck but plenty of positive signs: Maguire brought composure to the defence (excellent blocks and distribution), AWB looked good going forward and we were really dangerous on the break. Biggest plus of all was the finishing - ruthless!

  8. Rashford played role to perfection - Olepublished at 19:15 British Summer Time 11 August 2019

    Man Utd 4-0 Chelsea

    Manchester United

More from Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: "Marcus Rashford played that left hand/striker role to perfection today.

"Once in a while he is caught out defensively but that means he can counter attack. His second goal was absolutely outstanding, that's where we want him running in behind and not on the touchline crossing in.

"Martial's goal was a typical number nine goal, that's where I want him and he knows that. That's where the number nines get the goals."

On United's summer transfer business, having signed Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James: "We've signed three fantastic boys, three fantastic personalities and we are delighted with them.

"Dan has made a great impact and it is the best feeling ever scoring a goal in front of the Stretford End, you cant beat that."

  9. 'We settled own second half'published at 19:11 British Summer Time 11 August 2019

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solksjaer: "The second half was outstanding, defended well in shape and counter attacked well. We can count ourselves a little bit lucky to go in 1-0 up, but then half-time came, we settled down and played well second half.

"The fitter you are, the more you can do. It's as simple as that. The boys have been working hard but this is still the start, we can still get some hard work in."

On £80m centre-back Harry Maguire's debut: "He's done exactly what we've signed him for, his presence in both boxes, his calmness and composure on the ball.

"He's a leader and with him, David de Gea and Victor Lindelof they marshalled that back line really well. It is important to have strong personalities at the back."

Manchester United goalscorer Marcus Rashford, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a good start, in the first half we could have been a bit sharper but it is to be expected in the first game. In the second half we looked sharper and the fitness work we have been doing over the summer pulled us through."

On playing on the left of central striker Anthony Martial today: "It gives us fluidity, Anthony can play both positions, it gives us more options. Defensively it can be tough but we will get better.

"Whether I'm there or more central, is the same really, just more defensive duties on the left. But as time goes on we will get better at it. It's looking good but we've still got a lot to work on."

On confidently converting the penalty for United's first goal: "It's about waiting for the keeper but if he doesn't give you much then you go with which side you're confident with. The keeper stood tall so it was hard. I look at him and wait to see if he can give me some movement when I'm running up and then decide which side I'm going.

On United's style of play: "We're playing to our strengths, we've had players to be good on counter attack, some times decision-making has let us down, but a lot of us are young players so need to keep working on that."

Manchester United winger Daniel James, speaking to Match of the Day: "I don't think you can sum up how it feels, to come on and score on my debut. I've dreamt of that. Ole said to be ready to come on. He said to go and enjoy yourself.

"Everything we have been doing in pre-season we have done today - high press and winning the ball back. We were keeping it well, even at 3-0 and 4-0. It sets us up well going in to next week."

Mo Aman: Gutting, however Chelsea fans need to be optimistic and give a few games against lower sides for his style to gel we saw the same with Conte.

There was always a chance this could happen with a young side. I saw a lot of positives from Abraham and Mount. The worst performances were all from players in their 30's!

It is fair to say Frank Lampard has some work in front of him.

The positive - there won't be many for him - is that the Chelsea fans were still singing his name at the end.

If Roman Abramovich is going to be patient with anyone, it is Chelsea's record goalscorer.

  15. 'Injuries aren't an excuse'published at 18:52 British Summer Time 11 August 2019

    Man Utd 4-0 Chelsea

    Chelsea

More from Chelsea boss Frank Lampard: "We are missing internationals and big players but I don't want that to be an excuse. We were competing for long periods. We made four mistakes and they put them away. It is a reality check for us all.

"We are Chelsea. We don't want to come here and lose 4-0.

"It wasn't a 4-0 game for long periods but we need to accept it.

"But we have Super Cup coming and then first home game so we take the good bits and bad bits and analyse them."

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard, talking to Sky Sports: "Four mistakes for the goals. We have to be self-critical for that. We controlled the first half hour but made some poor decisions. We should be in the lead at the break. It is easier for them to play at 2-0 3-0. I can't look at it and be happy.

"They have pace and if you turn over the ball and allow them to run in behind you they can hurt you. We were comfortable in the first half. But there are lessons there. You can't make mistakes at this level. But if you look at the game, it is not a 4-0 game.

Richard Browne:Two bang average sides. Chelsea so tactically naive yet probably the better team.

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, who was named man of the match by Sky: "It is a great start for myself and the team. We rode our luck a bit first half but second we were much more ourselves.

"It is the first game at Old Trafford so I think there were nerves. We gave the ball away in dangerous areas. We moved it nicely second half and our front three are so dangerous on the break.

"We knew there were only two clean sheets last year here. We need to make it a fortress.

"I felt good. I've only had three or four days with the lads. I am going to get fitter and better."
