What an opportunity. It all comes from Burke's change of pace. Greg Taylor is playing like a centre-forward when he's a full-back. He's so focused on getting the shot on target, but he's just got to just think about putting his foot through it and let the power beat the goalkeeper.

  2. CLOSE!published at 20:05 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    Rangers 1-0 St Joseph's (5-0)

Andy Halliday has made a cracking start at Ibrox, thrusting up the left flank and darting into spaces between the St Joseph's defence.

He breaks into the Gibraltans' box, but his fizzed cut-back is missed by Stewart.

  3. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:05 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    Kilmarnock 0-0 Connah's Quay (2-1)

Greg Taylor is denied once more by Brass. The Scotland left-back gets in behind the Connah's Quay defence and instead of smashing the ball, he tries to place his shot.

Brass is having some game here.

    Kilmarnock 0-0 Connah's Quay (2-1)

    Former Kilmarnock goalkeeper

All the Connah's Quay striker Morris needs to do is roll it into the back of the net. It's pretty much an open goal and Jamie MacDonald makes a token dive really. It's a shocker, it's a real shocker.

  6. CLOSE!published at 19:57 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    Rangers 1-0 St Joseph's (5-0)

Rangers spurn a huge opportunity to double their lead in the ninth minute.

Andy Halliday whips in a free-kick from the left angle of the box, and Greg Stewart glances his header narrowly across the face of goal.

That should have been 2-0, but Steven Gerrard's men are utterly dominant.

  7. CLOSE!published at 19:56 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    Kilmarnock 0-0 Connah's Quay (2-1)

Callum Morris misses a glorious chance for Connah's Quay. A slack ball from Gary Dicker was pounced upon by the visitors and with the goal gaping he somehow misses.

Then, just moments later Brass provides some heroics to deny Rory McKenzie. It's all go at Rugby Park.

  8. 'Findlay should have finished that'published at 19:53 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    Kilmarnock 0-0 Connah's Quay (2-1)

    Derek Ferguson

I think he's got to finish that. He should just ask them the question. The second ball falls to Findlay and he's eight yards out. He should put his foot through the ball and he could make it 1-0 to Killie.

  9. CLOSE!published at 19:52 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    Kilmarnock 0-0 Connah's Quay (2-1)

Stuart Findlay almost makes the breakthrough for Kilmarnock. The visitors fail to clear the ball and the Killie defender sweeps a shot at goal from eight yards, but Lewis Brass does well to save.

    Kilmarnock v Connah's Quay Nomads (2-1) (19:45)

Kilmarnock's new Italian manager Angelo Alessio made a winning start to his reign in Rhyl last week thanks to Stuart Findlay's last-minute goal.

But the Rugby Park boss is seeking improvement this evening to ensure smooth progress to the second qualifying round.

    Kilmarnock v Connah's Quay (2-1) (19:45)

BBC Scotland's Thomas Duncan is our man at Rugby Park tonight. Here he sets the scene for us:

It's a day of firsts for Kilmarnock, sort of. A first European tie to take place at Rugby Park since 2001, a first competitive home match in charge for Angelo Alessio, and a first proper outing for the newly-laid surface at the stadium. An expectant crowd has gathered to hopefully watch Kilmarnock set up a tie with Serbian giants Partizan Belgrade. Though as Killie, and any Scottish team who faced them in the Challenge Cup last year, know, Connah's Quay never make it easy. They'll expect another bruising night.

  15. 'I've learned a lot about my team' - McInnespublished at 19:33 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    FT: RoPS 1-2 Aberdeen (2-4)

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes tells BBC Scotland Sportsound: "I've learned a lot about my team - and it's a new team and new squad - over the last couple of games. We lose a goal with 30 seconds to go at Pittodrie and we lose a goal 30 seconds into the game tonight.

"But there was so much to enjoy about my team tonight. It wasn't the start we want, a ricochet shot and it might have been a foul on McKenna by the striker who barges into him and they get the break of the ball.

"That's another test for my team, who is going to give us the composure to deal with the game? Like everybody else, there's a natural feeling of this 'This is a disaster, we've gone behind'.

"So the players have to win those mental battles and from then on we took control of the game. When we needed to stay calm and make good decisions, we did."

  16. 'Not showing our hand too early'published at 19:28 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    Kilmarnock v Connah's Quay (2-1) (19:45)

Connah's Quay's Scottish manager, Andy Morrison, will be reminding his side that they have a good record in Scotland.

They won away to Falkirk and Queen's Park last season on their way to giving Championship winners Ross County a tough test before losing the Scottish Challenge Cup final 3-1 in Inverness.

"We know we need to stay in the game and keep it as tight for as long as we can before we actually show our hand and maybe change things round," Morrison said.

"We've looked at certain things this week. I think the two or three times that we did actually get in their box we always looked like we were going to score.

"So it's about how much emphasis we put on trying to get in there and how that leaves us open at the back, as the higher you go and the better players you play against they'll punish you, they'll make the right decision."

  18. Gerrard's home comfortpublished at 19:22 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    Rangers v St Joseph's (4-0) (19:45)

Steven Gerrard remains unbeaten at home in Europe as Rangers boss after last season's run to the Europa League group stage.

His Ibrox record reads four wins and three draws and surely that will be enhanced tonight against the minnows from Gibraltar, St Joseph's, who were thumped 4-0 in the first leg.

  19. Gerrard to 'give people an opportunity' against Gibraltarianspublished at 19:17 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    Rangers v St Joseph's (4-0) (19:45)

We expected Steven Gerrard to ring the changes from the team which faced St Joseph's last week and he's done just that with nine in total.

The Ibrox manager said pre-match he'd "give people an opportunity", as 17-year-old Josh McPake was drafted into the European squad.

"I'm looking for players to show me they can play in our system and play our way. It is an opportunity for everyone picked to play.

"I'm very happy with the way we're playing at the moment.

"I want a group of probably 22-23 players that are all fighting for 11 jerseys and that will help us in the long run.

"We want two good players in every position fighting for the one jersey and hopefully that'll bring out the best form in the players collectively and for them themselves."
