    RoPS 1-1 Aberdeen (2-3)

Another chance, another header, another miss from Sam Cosgrove.

The ball is hung up to the back post for the big striker and again he can't diverted it on goal. These are big chances, Aberdeen can't afford to pass up many more.

    RoPS 1-1 Aberdeen (2-3)

Seven minutes into the second half and there's not really been a clear chance of note. The hosts are attempting to probe but with no penetration, while the Dons are working the play down the left as much as they can.

Aberdeen have started the second half on the front foot and have been first to every ball. Derek McInnes will have made sure the start of the second half was better than the start of the first, and so far so good. Aberdeen mustn't be slack and keep their passing sharp and be defensively spot on.

I was expecting more from Aberdeen. The goal was a stonewall penalty from a silly challenge and Cosgrove took it very well. But Cosgrove missed the header which would've finished the tie off. Other than that, Aberdeen haven't had a great deal of chances, and RoPS have caused a problem or two. It was exactly the start to the game Aberdeen wouldn't want. Finishing the game at Pittodrie, they should have been super alert, and at the start of the return game, they had to be totally dominant.

  6. So far, so good... sort ofpublished at 17:53 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    HT: RoPS 1-1 Aberdeen (2-3)

After a shaky first 90 seconds and ropey last 90 seconds, Aberdeen have had the better of it in Finland.

Kada's deflected goal after just two minutes threatened to see the Dons' safe passage into the next round. Instead, Sam Cosgrove's spot kick put Derek McInnes' men back in charge.

It could have been worse, though. Just seconds before the break Andrew Considine and Joe Lewis managed to clatter into each other with the ball loose and goal gaping, but disaster was averted.

Aberdeen have been clearly the better team. However, much like the half-open packet of Jaffa Cakes two desks away, they are far from safe. On that note, back in two minutes...

Cosgrove has got to score there. I don't know if it came to him too quickly, but he should be expecting that. He should at least hit the target from six yards. It was a wonderful opportunity which came on the counter attack with RoPS throwing players forward.

  11. CLOSE!published at 17:39 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    RoPS 1-1 Aberdeen (2-3)

So close from Cosgrove! A tremendous Ryan Hedges cross finds the big Aberdeen forward unmarked seven yards out. Somehow, his free header glances just by the near post.

Let's hope he won't be regretting that.

  12. Still in the balancepublished at 17:35 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    RoPS 1-1 Aberdeen (2-3)

Despite hitting back, Aberdeen now on the back foot as Sissoko goes wandering down the left to win a corner from nothing. The ball is eventually recovered for a goal kick with a home player collapsing in the box.

Aberdeen's advantage looking as precarious as a TRNSMT carry out bag. Still, a lead's a lead.

Have to say, that is a ridiculous challenge from the RoPS man in the box. Ferguson was going away from goal and would have been doing well to get a shot away, but he didn't get a chance before being brought crashing down to the plastic turf.

Aleksandr Kokko has now gone into the book for a rash challenge on Scott McKenna. The hosts losing the plot a little bit here...

Never in doubt. Cosgrove steps up and calmly slots the ball right-footed to the right side of goal. The keeper goes the right way, but he can't get down quickly enough.

  17. CLOSE!published at 17:18 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    RoPS 1-0 Aberdeen

Aberdeen's tactic now seems clear. With Cosgrove in attack, they are bombarding the RoPS defence with high ball after high ball.

It is just inches away from paying off there. Shay Logan's deep cross to the back post from the right is the fourth in quick succession, and it is met perfectly by Lewis Ferguson at the back post. His header flashes back across goal but drops just a foot beyond the far post.

That's better Aberdeen. More of this, please...

I thought there was a foul on Scott McKenna, but it's dropped and taken a deflection past Joe Lewis. It's the start Aberdeen certainly didn't want. Aberdeen will have to change their mindset now and go to try and score. They have to clear their heads, probe and try and make the chances for the goal they now need.
