  1. Dons must sharpen uppublished at 17:06 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    RoPS 1-0 Aberdeen (2-2)

As you can imagine, that start has rattled Aberdeen. The hosts are running over the top of them at the moment with McInnes' men struggling to find their feet.

That Kada opener means Aberdeen must score in Finland tonight if they are to avoid going out at their first hurdle in consecutive seasons.

    Kada

Disastrous start for the Dons. A long ball is knocked down to Tarik Kada 25 yards out and he bends a fine finish in at the far corner with the aid of a slight deflection off Ash Taylor.

  4. Will Aberdeen progress?published at 16:57 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    RoPS v Aberdeen (1-2) (17:00)

The teams are in the tunnel. Aberdeen are the furthest north they ever have been for a game of football. That has no relevance to anything, just sounded quite a good stat...

Will Aberdeen progress? Give us a thumbs up for yay, thumbs down for nay.

  5. Play it again Sampublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    RoPS v Aberdeen (1-2) (17:00)

The striker who couldn't score has become the guy who rarely misses.

Sam Cosgrove had netted one goal in five seasons before pitching up at Pittodrie a year-and-half ago.

He is now Aberdeen's man main, though, following a terrific campaign in which he topped the club's scoring charts.

He picked up where he left off with the decisive goal over the Finns last week and will spearhead the Dons' bid to finish the job this evening.

  6. 'Onus on us to deliver again'published at 16:51 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    RoPS v Aberdeen (1-2) (17:00)

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes tells BBC Sportsound: "The late goal from last week is the one real negative. The performance was very good, very strong, considering we’ve only had three and a bit weeks' preparation.

“There were spells you could see RoPS are comfortable on the ball, a possession-based team.

“The goal keeps the tie alive whereas 2-0 would have been very difficult for them to come back from.

“We’re ruing the missed chances and have work to do. Any time we’ve had a positive outcome in Europe, we’ve needed two strong performances. So the onus is onus to deliver again."

It’s an astroturf pitch and after losing the late first-leg goal Aberdeen can’t be careless tonight. The game should have been over and done with last week, so it’s a case of making sure the job is done professionally tonight and they go about their business the right way.

  8. McInnes hits 300published at 16:45 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    RoPS v Aberdeen (1-2) (17:00)

The Dons are in Lapland tonight but Derek McInnes will be after a special present to commemorate his 300th game in charge of the Pittodrie club.

Stat attack: McInnes has the third-best win ratio of any manager at Aberdeen with 55%.

  9. Easy night at Ibrox ahead?published at 16:43 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    Rangers v St Joseph's (4-0) (19:45)

And while the action is kicking off at Rugby Park, things will just be getting started in Govan.

Rangers are already looking to a likely second-round reunion with Luxembourg's Progres Niederkorn after thumping St Joseph's 4-0 in Gibraltar last Tuesday, and Steven Gerrard has said "the team will look different" as he explores options in his squad. "I'm looking for players to show me they can play in our system and play our way. It is an opportunity for everyone picked to play," he said.

New signing Filip Helander is ineligible and not yet fit enough to be involved, while defender Jon Flanagan and striker Dapo Mebude miss out too. However, 17-year-old winger Josh McPake will be involved.

    Kilmarnock v Connah's Quay (2-1) (19:45)

Whenever Aberdeen are finished scudding the Santa XI 7-0, the football continues for our Scottish trio.

Rugby Park will host European football for the first time in 18 years when, err, a Welsh team come to town...

Angelo Alessio's side are 2-1 up on Connah's Quay Nomads following last week's nervy first leg, and the Italian's side left it left with both away goals coming in the last eight minutes.

  14. In the balancepublished at 16:32 British Summer Time 18 July 2019

    RoPS v Aberdeen (1-2) (17:00)

It all could have been so different for Aberdeen. Niall McGinn and Sam Cosgrove had the Dons 2-0 up and crusing against RoPS at Pittodrie ahead of their trip to Finland. However, Tommi Jäntti's injury-time effort beyond Joe Lewis means Derek McInnes' men have no room for error in Finland tonight.

    Evening all.

Twenty four hours, in fact, not even that, on from Celtic securing their safe passage through to the next round of European qualifying, our tremendous treble of Aberdeen, Kilmarnock and Rangers are aiming to do the same this afternoon, all with varying levels of difficulty facing them.
