    FT: Aberdeen 5-0 Chikhura

Aberdeen striker Sam Cosgrove: "All round, it was a good night’s work. It was good to round it off with a hat-trick. There’s been a lot of work done on the training ground and leading up to the start of the season.

"There’s also got to be a lot of credit given to the new boys who’ve come in. The club’s a special place and I’m sure they’ve done the same with the new boys.

"I wasn’t here when we beat Reijka last time, but we’re looking forward to it and want to get through the tie.

"As a striker coming into the season, I challenge myself to score as many goals as I can. Hopefully, I can keep on doing it."

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes: "They [Chikhura] a very good side technically. There were spells in the game when we were free-flowing. All the goals were things of beauty. Sam [Cosgrove] will get the headlines, and rightly so… the fans are getting a flavour of what we’re trying to do this season.

"I’m absolutely delighted with the performance."

There seems to be huge camaraderie, the way a couple of the goals were celebrated. The new players in there have integrated really well, that's the impression from the outside anyway, it looked like a very united team playing really good football, scoring excellent goals. The movement, the speed of passing and thought was excellent. It didn't look at all like an early season game but one, two or three months in. This was a high calibre performance for this early.

Big questions needed answered by Derek McInnes during the close season, but looks like he's done that. He had to find new faces, new quality and he's certainly done that. And we have to remember it's really early in the season. It's only been two home games to look at but they've both been sparkling and really positive. The newcomers coming in all look of high quality.

BBC Scotland pundit Willie Miller was part of the Aberdeen side who set the record European aggregate score back in August 1982 on their way to their historic Cup Winner's Cup title - beating Swiss side Sion 7-0 in their first leg, 4-1 in the second of the competition's preliminary round.

While Derek McInnes' troops haven't quite broken it, beating Chikhura 6-1 on aggregate to reach the third qualifying round, Miller believes they've earned the right to be compared.

The quality of the play tonight they probably deserve that, they've created the chances and importantly this time around they've taken the chances. They have been ruthless. They've been sensational and a lot of star performances out there. They really are gelling as a team and you'd think they'll only get better. It's a special European night, the fans are loving it and the players enjoying it.

Before half-time they sat back, and looks like they're doing the same again. I know the game is in the bag now but it would be nice for them to keep playing on the front foot and maybe get another one.

It's a good night for them. It's a packed house of 15,000, the football has been top drawer, some outstanding performances with Gallagher right up there I would say the man of the match. But Sam Cosgrove with the three goals from outfield play, no penalties, taking a bow and doing a lap of honour out there. And he thoroughly deserves it. It's been a great performance from the team and the big striker.

Sam Cosgrove wanted a hat-trick and he's realised that ambition against the shattered Georgians. The big striker is cool as a cucumber as he curls an effort into the net with the outside of his foot for his third and Aberdeen's fifth of the night.

It's a case of 'job done' for Aberdeen and manager Derek McInnes. Leading 5-1 on aggregate, it's a case of seeing the tie out without suffering any injuries and await Rijeka of Croatia in the next round.
