What a cracking Sunday that turned out to be...unless you're a Newcastle fan.

Have a read of the report

We are back on Monday for the small matter of Manchester United v Arsenal.

    Until then.

Ex-Liverpool defender on Radio 5 Live

    Newcastle are shot of confidence.

Jamaal Lascelles looks petrified to get up the pitch. The defence play far too deep, they have to get up behind the midfield. That's something Steve Bruce desperately has to address.

The midfield looks way off the pace, they couldn't get near anyone.

It's worrying times for Newcastle. They collapsed completely.

There's nothing to take away from this game today, apart from Andy Carroll getting more game time in his legs.

The fans are behind their team no matter what. The noise they made was superb. They clapped the players off because they understand the situation at the club. Brilliant from the Newcastle fans and I do really feel for them.

  3. 'I have the appetite to turn it around'published at 19:05 British Summer Time 29 September 2019

    Leicester 5-0 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

More from Newcastle boss Steve Bruce: "No complaints on the red card, in today's game we know what happens.

"After that, we needed to regroup and show more effort, endeavour, fight, spirit and that is the hugely disappointing thing from the group I have worked with for the last eight weeks. That was not good to see.

"It (effort) is a big, big part of the game and we have not done enough. The nitty gritty is that we have not laid a glove on Leicester in the second half and the white flag came out too early.

"It is difficult but we have to go back to basics. There are four or five who a itching to play and I will look at that. I will analyse myself too. I have heard lots of nonsense about tactics but the big thing is about showing pride and having a go. We have let everybody down today.

"I always knew it was a challenge, I was delighted to take the challenge but let us hope we can turn it around. I have the appetite to do that."

  4. Bruce angered by 'lack of effort'published at 19:02 British Summer Time 29 September 2019

    Leicester 5-0 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce tells BBC Sport: "It was not anywhere near good enough. We have made it difficult all afternoon and at 10 men you have to get 20, 30 minutes but we gave an awful goal away for the second and a deflection for the third. We have to show more than what we did and roll our sleeves up more in difficult circumstances.

"The mistakes, the way we went about he game, as son as the third went in the heads went down. We did not do enough to stop the Leicester change. We need to do more. That is the difficult thing to take. We made mistakes and were badly punished.

"The one thing I pride myself on is begin honest. I have only been here a few weeks but you learn on performances and games like today. We have not done enough. We have to go back to the training ground and do the basics better. We were OK defensively but were all over the place in the second half.

"We made too many mistakes, gave bad goals away and the lack of effort towards the end was nowhere near enough for the magnificent support we brought down. We have to put a shift in and we have not done enough."

I have supported Newcastle most of my 47 years. I have seen a lot of good, more bad, but until today have never been embarrassed. I am actually embarrassed to support my team! No passion. No commitment. No desire and more worryingly no clue! Down for sure.

LCFC versus NUFC sums up the difference between a superbly run club and one that is completely mismanaged, from the owners to the manager, to the players, the gap is massive!

  6. 'Horrible afternoon'published at 18:57 British Summer Time 29 September 2019

    FT: Leicester 5-0 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

More from Steve Bruce to Sky Sports: "We have worked on our defensive organisation and it has kept us in games but today we didn't have a left wing back and it made it difficult for us. It is a bad bad performance. We have to go to work this week and put away the mistakes we have been making or it will be a long and difficult season.

"The second and third goal came so quickly and it became very difficult. It ended up as a horrible afternoon for everybody, I always knew it was going to be tough but now we have to show what we have got.

"We knew that we have a tough fixture list to start with but the Premier League demands you do the basics well, and if we don't against Man Utd, you will be in for a tough afternoon."

  7. 'Totally unacceptable'published at 18:52 British Summer Time 29 September 2019

    FT: Leicester 5-0 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce told Sky Sports: "It was worse than that if I'm being honest, it was totally unacceptable. We have a following of supporters who have come here in their thousands. The way they supported us was typical of them but we have to give them more to shout about. The red card makes it difficult but you have to have more hunger. The deflection makes it a tough afternoon but certainly we didn't do enough, it was one of them horror shows."

On Yoshinori Muto's missed chance: "It is a big moment in the game and we haven't taken it but we cannot keep going back to things like that. Overall, in the 90 minutes you have to take part in the game and we didn't do enough of the basics."

On Isaac Hayden's red card: "I have no complaints. Back in my day maybe, but in today's game you cannot follow through and be reckless because they are the ones that damage people. When he looks back he will know. It was important we got Andy [Carroll] to some fitness level and I haven't seen much of Almiron so it was damage limitation when those two came on."

  8. 'A joy to work with'published at 18:49 British Summer Time 29 September 2019

    Leicester City

Brendan Rodgers on the club's ability to replace players: "Its a great credit to the club. I'm happy to take a step back from that as my strength is coaching the players. The people at the club do a great job of recruiting. It's trying to sustain that, you must have that pipeline of players as you know you will lose some. There's a lot of forward planning that goes on and it's a joy to work with."

  9. 'We've got a lot to learn still'published at 18:47 British Summer Time 29 September 2019

    Leicester 5-0 Newcastle

    Leicester City

More from Brendan Rodgers to Sky Sports: "We want to score as many goals as we can. It's a mark of good teams how you can exploit 10 men. If you do the right things you get your rewards and the players have done that.

"We've got a lot to learn still, improvements to makes. Every day the boys come in to be better, they want to learn and want to be better- it's a team with experience and young players that want to get better too.

"I think the perception can be you're just possession based but my teams have always had intent. Jamie Vardy has so many qualities, his touch, he gets runs in behind, for me he's such a clever player. Our game is fast and that suits his style. He's been brilliant for me since I came in."

    Leicester 5-0 Newcastle

    Leicester City

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers speaking to Sky Sports: "It was very good performance in lots of aspects. You've got to defend well, our pressing was good, there was a hunger in our game.

"We showed all elements today. We had possession, we moved it quick, we were a threat on the counter. It was a good demonstration of how to play against 10 men. Sometimes you can give away too much space but the payers managed it well. Overall we scored fantastic goals and we kept a clean sheet which is important for us. Overall it's a great day for us."

"Rollicking" has been changed from a similar word that Jamaal Lascelles actually said...

  14. 'We have had a rollicking'published at 18:39 British Summer Time 29 September 2019

    FT: Leicester 5-0 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles tells Sky Sports: "Terrible from the boys. It is no one's fault but ourselves. We went a man down but we still had 10 on the pitch and leaking four goals is not acceptable.

"We have had a rollicking off the gaffer and we really need to look at ourselves in the mirror. You have to make it hard for them. It is not good enough.

"The way we conceded the goals was terrible and it has never happened before. The boys do care and the man down was disadvantage but you can still roll your sleeves up because it is not good enough.

"It doesn't matter what manager you have, but you have to have pride yourself and ensure you win your duels. We really need to sit down and look back at that. The gaffer wont let us have our heads down too much and it wont have an effect on other games."

  15. 'Teams must fear Leicester'published at 18:36 British Summer Time 29 September 2019

    Leicester 5-0 Newcastle

    Stephen Warnock
Ex-Liverpool defender on Radio 5 Live

It was nowhere near good enough from Newcastle today, there will be a lot of questions asked about Steve Bruce and his team.

Lets not take anything away from Leicester - they were immense today and great value for their victory.

Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal are Leicester's challenge this season. I don't see Manchester United challenging for the top-four places.

You have to fear this Leicester team and respect them - they have quality all over the pitch and on the bench.

When Brendan Rodgers came to Leicester I bet a lot of pitch players thought they would improve. He improves players. Jamie Vardy has improved - you could see his movement today - he's more efficient and saving energy and it's causing defenders massive problems.

  17. Leicester's 'close-knit group'published at 18:31 British Summer Time 29 September 2019

    Leicester 5-0 Newcastle

    Leicester City

Leicester striker Jamie Vardy tells Sky Sports: "We knew it would be a difficult game but we thought the first goal was important. We got that and want to kept the momentum going and came away with a very good victory today.

"I am delighted for Ricardo Pereira, slotted it in with a weaker foot. He is consistently good and will only get better. You can see what we have been upto on the training field and are implementing the manager's plans.

"We have got lots of different ways to score, we used to be counter-attacking but we have different dimensions in attack.

"You can see the way we are playing, we keep possession but play it fast and has an end product.

"It is all the same off the field, a really close-knit group and get back on the training field for Liverpool next weekend."
