Every player can up their game.

Everybody can play with a bit more intensity and then we might well start to see the Tottenham we had become used to.

No doubt who Atalanta’s dangerman is tonight - their Argentine all-rounder Alejandro ‘Papu’ Gomez. The 31-year-old midfielder/winger/striker has scored five goals his last three Serie A games for I Nerazzurri (the Black and Blues).

Atalanta’s coach Gian Piero Gasperini likes to play open, attacking football, and is not afraid to take a few risks, so we might see a few chances at either end tonight, for Gomez and his team-mates as well as City.

Surely the Italian side will offer more in attack than City’s two previous opponents in Group C. Shakhtar Donetsk and Dinamo Zagreb managed eight shots between them in two games, with only one apiece on target and no goals.

Angus Robb: People suggesting that Levy cannot fill our new stadium with quality on the pitch are nuts. We've only had the stadium five minutes. There's loads of time to build a successful team. To suggest the Spurs failure to land or clear certain players in the Summer Window is down to Levy haggling are oversimplifying the transfer process. Most failed buy/sell attempts had nothing to do with the price between the clubs.

Pep Guardiola has spoken a lot in the past few days about how his Manchester City side need to be more clinical in front of goal if they are going to win the Champions League, but the statistics don't really back him up.

In each of the three previous seasons under Pep, City’s shot conversion ratio in Europe has been higher than the actual winners, above 20% each time, and always ranked in the top four.

And it seems that having the best shot conversion ratio is far from a guarantee of success anyway. In the eight seasons since City made their debut in this competition in 2011, only two of the teams to top that category have got past the last 16 - Paris St Germain (QF) in 2014 and Liverpool (runners-uo) in 2018.

City are out practising their shooting at the moment, with Kevin de Bruyne (pictured) in particular taking plenty of pot-shots from distance. Shall I tell him that it won’t help?

A lot of excitement at the Etihad about Phil Foden starting, with plenty of shouts of encouragement for the teenager as he emerged (last) for the warm-up.

Starts have been few and far between for the 19-year-old this season - his only other one came in the Carabao Cup - but he already has quite a bit of European experience to draw upon.

This is his fourth Champions League start, his ninth appearance in total, and he is looking to add to his total of two goals.

Ideozu-Frank Sampson: Do Spurs Need to win tonight? Absolutely YES! Cause of crisis at the Lane? Dan Levy's love of haggling at prices of affordable players! He built a worldie stadium no doubt, but he's ruining it when it comes to acquisition of players
