I've followed England for a long time and in the main we've had really good results but the problem has been creating chances for the front three.

Our midfield three don't create or score enough goals normally. Maddison unfortunately didn't travel due to illness but we do need more from the midfield three.

A big chance tonight then for Mason Mount, who was a substitute in last month’s qualifiers with Kosovo and Bulgaria.

Gareth Southgate claims to have been a big fan of the player for some time.

Asked what he has made of Mount recently, he said: “Exactly what I thought of him when I saw him at 16 playing for our U16s, he’s a quality player, an intelligent footballer, presses well, has a real eye for goal, good quality.

“So, nothing I’ve seen surprises me at all. We’ve had him marked as a player from the first time I saw him at St. George’s Park."

There is less than 45 minutes to go before kick-off, but only a handful of England fans have taken their seats inside the Sinobo Stadium.

There are hundreds of flags of St George draped behind one of the goals. Curiously, the England fans are behind the goal where the Czech Republic have decided to warm up.

The Three Lions went there for a friendly against Czechoslovakia under Graham Taylor and they drew 2-2, Martin Keown grabbing an equaliser with a thunderous strike.

Czech Republic's dangerman tonight is undoubtedly Patrik Schick.

The forward has four goals in five qualifiers and has been compared to Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He is currently on loan at RB Leipzig on loan from Roma.

AHumanAlien: The way Everton are playing, should Pickford and Keane be starting? Also, what does TAA need to do to get a start? Positive, good to see Mount get a start.

Sean: Still unsure about Rice. Potential... yes! But not seen enough to be convinced by him yet.

Southgate's faith in Mason Mount is confirmed by giving Chelsea's talented youngster his first start ahead of team-mate Ross Barkley.

Everton's Michael Keane keeps his place in central defence, which will be a relief to him after his poor performance in the 5-3 win against Kosovo at Southampton.

England boss Gareth Southgate makes three changes to the side that beat Kosovo last month.

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount is rewarded for his fine start to the season by being given his first Three Lions start in place of club team-mate Ross Barkley.

The other two changes are at full-back where Kieran Trippier comes in for Trent Alexander-Arnold and Danny Rose replaces Ben Chilwell.

Czech Republic XI: Vaclik, Coufal, Celustka, Brabec, Boril, Soucek, Kral, Masopust, Darida, Jankto, Schick.

England XI: Pickford, Trippier, Keane, Maguire, Rose, Rice, Henderson, Mount, Sancho, Sterling, Kane.

This is how it looks in England's group. Gareth Southgate's side will secure their place at Euro 2020 with a win because they will go six points above the Czechs, who will have two games left, with a better head-to-head record.

England then visit Bulgaria on Monday for their next qualifier.

The Czech Republic and Kosovo are also battling for a qualification spot, although neither side can secure their place or be eliminated this month

Dejection and despair.

That was the feeling around 15 months ago when England's World Cup hopes came crashing down with a semi-final defeat to Croatia.

But the Three Lions have picked themselves up, and then some.

England have swept aside all before them in Euro 2020 qualifying and a win tonight against Czech Republic will cement their place at next year's tournament.

Preparation to end a 54-year wait for a major trophy can then truly begin.
