  1. Liverpool seize control of title racepublished at 19:30 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2019

Liverpool are eight points clear at the top of the table - and nine ahead of Manchester City - after a pulsating 3-1 win over the champions at Anfield.

Here's a round-up of some of the best reaction from the players and managers.

  2. 'It is the most difficult stadium in the world'published at 19:28 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2019

    Liverpool 3-1 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola speaking to BBC Sport: "Congratulations to Liverpool, they scored three, we got one but I'm so proud of my team, few teams can come here and play the way that we did.

"We started incredibly well, we showed incredible bravery, they are the champions of Europe and it is the most difficult stadium in the world. They had two shots and it was two goals.

"It's not easy after being two goals down to react the way we reacted. It was one of the best performances I have ever seen from my team. That's what we needed and hopefully we can continue to make the steps we need."

On Liverpool's first goal: "Ask Mike Riley and his people please."

  3. 'We scored incredible goals'published at 19:28 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2019

    Liverpool 3-1 Man City

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to BBC Sport: "They were good. Oh they were good and we had to defend with all we had but we scored incredible goals.

"It was so tough to play, the intensity of the game was so clear. It was all worth it, really great. They pass the ball from outside, Sterling. How good did we defend him until then? Because you saw what happens when we don't defend him anymore.

"The boys were completely focused and concentrated. It was so good. It is the only way we can beat City, maybe other teams can do it a different way but this is the only way we can beat them."

Calm for the first goal? "The problem was the VAR. I saw the discussions before the first goal and I was just waiting. It is not the same anymore but it is no problem. I can celebrate tonight.

"All the games against City were pretty much like this apart from last season's home game. That was more controlled. This was not the most beautiful and most controlled but it was very lively, I like that."

  4. 'You guys should analyse it not me'published at 19:28 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2019

    Liverpool 3-1 Man City

Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva speaking to Sky Sports:

"I have not seen it yet. You guys should analyse it not me. If I speak I will be in trouble. I don't want to speak. I have not watched it.

"I think we played one of the best sides in the world, it's never easy in a stadium like Anfield. We had started better than them when we conceded the first goal. First counter, first goal, you cannot give them an inch, because if you do they will take it and score goals.

"It was a good performance but we want to win. Most teams may think they are playing better than Liverpool then at half-time you are losing two or three nil. It's how they play, they are one of the best counter attacking teams in the world.

"Congratulations to Liverpool we'll fight until the end. We've been in this position last season, we will never give up. We're only in November and they still have to play at the Etihad and there are plenty of games to play. We are not in the ideal position, or the one we'd want to be we have to improve."

  5. 'We defended everything they threw at us'published at 19:28 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2019

    Liverpool 3-1 Man City

    Liverpool

Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson speaking to Sky Sports:

"Obviously last year they beat is to the league so to play a big game like this at home and get the win is important.

    On the defining moment?

"The first goal. We didn’t start the best. I think they had two corners inside the first minute so it was always going to be an important factor. Fabinho hits an absolute worldie into the top corner and we could then go on. We defended everything they threw at us.

On importance in the title race:

"Especially towards the end of last season Manchester City weren’t dropping points. We tried to take everything game by game. It worked well for us last year and it's worked well for us this year. It's all about keeping it in perspective. We’’ll see where we are after Christmas and the busy period coming up."

  6. 'We played to the whistle as we were told'published at 19:28 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2019

    Liverpool 3-1 Man City

    Liverpool

Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold speaking on BBC 5 Live: 'These are massive three points for us, it was a difficult ask, last season we were not able to beat City so we showed we have improved.

'It was a controversial decision that went our way but we played to the whistle as we were told.

On Liverpool fan Sean Cox attending the match: 'It is very special for him to be here, and I am happy he has seen this performance from the team it is something that he deserves to see.

I wasn't expecting this game to live up to its billing but it certainly did and more.

It is advantage Liverpool in the title race but there's a long way to go yet in the title race. More twists and turns to come?

That's it from us. See you later! I'll leave you with a catch-up of some of the best reaction.

Bradley Bicknell: Given Liverpool’s incredible form over the last few seasons, I think they have deserved luck to go their way. Brilliance + Luck = title winners.

David Storey: Liverpool won all but two games at home last season (drawing the other two). Yet, incredibly, they lost the title on home form. This season, they've turned both those draws (Man City and Leicester) into victories.

Angus Robb: Were'nt Liverpool 7 points ahead last December, with like 20 games left?

7 points to 9 points isn't a huge gap and Liverpool have some hard away games to go. I think they've played Arsenal, Spurs, Leicester and City at Home , so the fixtures have some challenges for them

"We picked up a lot last season to get to 97 points and it wasn’t enough and we know we have to do something similar this time.

City didn't play badly at all, we got away with it a little but this team cannot stop winning. Title race is far from over, but without being our absolute best, we've got a huge lead. Just need everyone to stay calm.
