It's a similar attack to the goal that Newcastle scored. Sheffield United had four or five bodies in there but at full-stretch Dubravka just managed to tip it out.

  2. GREAT SAVE!published at 19:49 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Sheffield United 0-1 Newcastle

Got to be! No! What a save that is!

Oli Norwood starts the move with a peach of a ping from in to out, on to the chest of George Baldock. He hits an early, dipping cross which Oli McBurnie meets and heads into the corner. He thinks he's scored but Martin Dubravka has a wrist of iron to push it away.

    Belter!

This is a test for the Blades now. Can they react? Billy Sharp looks to trigger a swift break but it comes back for a foul on halfway.

  5. 'Saint-Maximin gave Henderson no chance'published at 19:47 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Sheffield United 0-1 Newcastle

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's the first bit of sustained pressure we've seen from Newcastle. It's the sort of attacks we were expecting from Newcastle but we were expecting Andy Carroll to be attacking them. Saint-Maximin left Dean Henderson with no chance.

  6. goal

GOAL - Sheffield United 0-1 Newcastlepublished at 19:45 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Allan Saint-Maximin (15 mins)

Great header! A header Andy Carroll himself would be proud of, as winger Allan Saint-Maximin powers Newcastle ahead!

Carroll starts the move, laying the ball off to Javi Manquillo, who stands the ball up and ASM is all over Chris Basham who never gets off the ground, heads into the far corner.

    Bedlam in the away end.

  7. Postpublished at 19:45 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Sheffield United 0-0 Newcastle

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Sheffield United have started the game so well. They are committing men forward and being adventurous.

  8. CLOSE!published at 19:44 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Sheffield United 0-0 Newcastle

And there is the first real attack for Newcastle, Allan Saint-Maximin dances past his man on the right wing but then hits a cross straight at Dean Henderson.

The Blades attack in response and Oli McBurnie curls over from the edge of the area. End-to-end game!

  9. 'Bruce is overachieving'published at 19:42 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Sheffield United 0-0 Newcastle

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

I don't think anyone would argue that Steve Bruce is overachieving - he's doing better than people expected. When Rafa Benitez left, people expected Bruce to struggle. They are slowly picking up points and going about their business. They've had some terrific results.

  10. Postpublished at 19:42 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Sheffield United 0-0 Newcastle

70% possession so far for the hosts. Newcastle not able to get out of their own half so far.

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

I can't understand how Sheffield United haven't taken the lead. It's a terrific ball in but Oli McBurnie just couldn't quite get his head on it.

Sheffield United have started the game really well.

  15. Postpublished at 19:40 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Sheffield United 0-0 Newcastle

Very nearly! The inswinging corner is dangerous, nobody clears it at the near post and Magpies keeper Martin Dubravka has to juggle it on the goal-line. Oli McBurnie then almost gets on the follow-up cross.

    Newcastle shaky at the back.

  16. Postpublished at 19:39 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Sheffield United 0-0 Newcastle

Oli Norwood slides in to make a cracking tackle on halfway before he forces a corner. Can the Blades make this early pressure tell?

  17. 'A very bitty start'published at 19:38 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Sheffield United 0-0 Newcastle

    Leon Osman
Former Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's been a similar start by both teams. We said pre-match about Newcastle playing long balls to Andy Carroll and Sheffield United are doing the same up to Oli McBurnie. It's been a very bitty start.

  18. Pressure led to players making mistakes - Silvapublished at 19:36 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

In his last BBC interview as Everton manager, Marco Silva said the pressure of his side's relegation battle led to his players making mistakes in their 5-2 loss at Liverpool.

  19. GREAT SAVE!published at 19:36 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Sheffield United 0-0 Newcastle

Ah that's an excellent save! A cross from the right is helped on by John Fleck, left wing-back Enda Stevens takes aim and lashes in a shot which is deflected and heading in, Martin Dubravka has to make a flying one-handed save.

    All Sheffield United so far.

  20. Postpublished at 19:34 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2019

    Sheffield United 0-0 Newcastle

Plenty of early Blades possession so far as Allan Saint-Maximin gives the ball away cheaply but Newcastle clear their lines.
