The names Tom Manley and Jackie Wassall might not mean much to most Manchester United fans but they have a significant position in the club's history.

They were the 'home-grown' players picked for a Second Division game at Fulham on 30 October, 1937 that started a run that will reach 4,000 consecutive games in which United have included a player they have developed in their matchday squad.

Football historians Tony Park and Steve Hobin did the donkey work - but it is an amazing statistic.

As a player, Everton caretaker manager Duncan Ferguson scored more Premier League goals against Man Utd than he did against any other side (seven goals in 16 games).

However, the Scotsman also lost more games against the Red Devils than any other team (10).

Manchester United are unchanged from the team which beat Manchester City last weekend.

Duncan Ferguson makes four changes as Sidibe, Walcott, Schneiderlin and Sigurdsson are dropped from the team, and the matchday squad altogether.

    Illness or just ruthless management?

    Full teams to come.

For the first time in over six years, there will be a man called Ferguson in the Old Trafford dugout again.

'Big Dunc' might have expected to be suited and booted just the once, but the manner and emotion of the victory over Chelsea was too powerful. Evertonians loved his performance, the big wigs upstairs happy to sanction an encore that gives them more time to select the right man for the long term.

Success at United could cloud that issue, but how likely is that?

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side seem to have turned a corner. Scoring freely, winning regularly and now closing in on the top four.

"...and then the eighth red card, right, that was an absolute joke. Never touched the fella."

Duncan Ferguson is loved by every Evertonian and everyone knows that. What is underappreciated is how intelligent he is, how good a coach he has been around the club for some time.

He has gone about it quietly educating himself on how he is going to prepare himself for taking on the top job. There is probably only one job he wants, it's the ultimate job and I would love to see him get it. I think he could rally bring changes there.

The last time Wolves enjoyed an unbeaten run longer than this in the top flight was in 1959 - an unscathed 18-game run which included them lifting the title. To beat that record they would need to keep blemish-free for the next eight matches, in a schedule which will see them face Spurs, Manchester City and Liverpool twice.

Their initial challenge will be to negotiate a reinvigorated Tottenham, who've accumulated as many victories in Jose Mourinho's first four games in charge as they did in Mauricio Pochettino's last 15.

Perhaps equally as significantly, Spurs have even ended their away-day hoodoo during Mourinho's tenure, which will only serve to inspire them at a ground where they were also successful last season.

It barely feels like five minutes to a creaking wreck like me since Duncan Ferguson headed that winner against Manchester United but it was actually nearly 15 years ago.

Paul Scholes and Gary Neville were both sent off too. Quite the night.

Manchester United are not now what they were then of course - can Ferguson conjure up another win?
