Wolves fought back from two goals down to beat 10-man Manchester City in a memorable and controversial Premier League encounter at Molineux.

Ederson was sent off for a foul on Diogo Jota outside the box before Raheem Sterling scored twice.

The first came after two dramatic interventions by VAR, one to award City a penalty, then rule a retake, both of which Rui Patricio saved before Sterling tapped the rebound from the second into an empty net.

Adama Traore and Raul Jimenez equalised for Wolves before Matt Doherty won it in the final minute.

The result leaves City in third place, 14 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, speaking to BBC Sport: "Eighty minutes 10 against 11 is so tough, so demanding. We could not defend the result.

"We have to think of the next game and about winning our games. It’s unrealistic to think about that [catching Liverpool]. In 48 hours we have another game."

On the gap on Liverpool: "It is big for a long time. It is not realistically to think about the title race. I have been asked the question for a long time and it is the same answer."

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo speaking to Amazon Prime about VAR: "I was thinking maybe I don't speak about VAR. I cannot speak to them [the referees] directly. Now is the time to get things right. They are decisions that effect everything. I have only seen things on the screen.

"He touches Riyad Mahrez on the foot but is it enough? I will not be a part of the discussions but they will continue. We must trust VAR and the referee. They see the image. If decisions are equal then everything will be okay. If you take the referee to the screen and he sees it in slow motion then he can decide better.

"He knows the piece of the game. Slow motion in VAR cannot judge. You know what I am saying? Let's trust more the referee. You must trust him. He can feel, see and measure everything. Even the reactions of the players. There are so many things that can help the referee."

Manchester City winger Bernardo Silva speaking to Amazon Prime on VAR controversy: "I haven't watched them. So I can't say. The point of VAR is helping the referees so I'd like to believe he was helped.

"I like the idea that they show on the screen in the stadium so everyone sees it - the players, the referees and the fans. Maybe they do it one day like in rugby or in the NBA, I like. It of course needs improvement. Everyone needs to get used to it. It is still the beginning.

On gap of Liverpool: "It is a really bad situation for us. A frustrating first half of the season. Nobody expected us to be this far away from Liverpool at this halfway point. We have to continue now. We know that winning the title is very complicated. I wouldn't say impossible but very difficult."
