  1. The FA Cup third roundpublished at 20:59 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January 2020

    HT: Liverpool 1-0 Sheffield United

The FA Cup is back soon. Sunday's Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton is one of the most anticipated matches in the third round.

That game is live on BBC One from 16:01 (all fixtures will kick off one minute late to encourage fans to think about their mental health).

Sheffield United are at home to Conference Premier side AFC Fylde on the same day at 14:01.

Arsenal's home match against Championship side Leeds United is also live on BBC One on Monday at 19:56.

The fourth-round draw is on BBC One before that game, starting from 19:30.

Here's what happened the last time Liverpool and Everton met in the FA Cup, back in 2018. Virgil van Dijk turned out all right after it didn't he?

Ar vind: Firmino is having an off day but Sheffield United are defending very well.

Ben Jones: So hard to judge Liverpool performances these days. Against Leicester, were they 10/10? 8/10? What is this tonight, 6?

The game has been very quiet, the atmosphere has been a little bit flat and I think that comes from the early goal. I think Liverpool thought it was going to be a rout after the opening goal but Sheffield United have stood strong. They haven't created too many chances but they have looked dangerous on the counter-attack.

Noel Fitzpatrick: Only half time but thus far, Henderson and Wijnaldum have bullied, badgered, and bossed that Sheffield midfield!

Aaron: SHU vs City was such a difference in performance compared to SHU vs Liverpool. Just goes to show the aura of fear and dominance this Liverpool team is exuding at the moment.

They were gifted the opening goal, but Liverpool fully deserve their lead. They have pinned Sheffield United in and given them precious little to feed off up front while providing near constant pressure at the other end.

The only concern for Klopp will be that his side haven't netted a second. If they do, this game is as good as done. But the longer it goes on with this scoreline, the more nervous 90% of the people in this stadium will start to get.

You have to feel for the Blades midfield, they are getting a working over from Henderson, Wiljnaldum and Milner.

James Milner's and then Andy Robertson's crosses are both headed away. Sheffield United then have a rare chance to break with a three-on-two but guess who's in the way?

    Virgil van Dijk.

Not a great match so far.

Liverpool are cruising and have barely reached second gear. Sheffield United are struggling to get going. Far too comfortable for the league leaders, who will be very content with this first half performance.

Andy Robertson curls a ball down the line and Sadio Mane gets there first. He feints to turn inside and then touches it past George Baldock but it's too heavy.

David McGoldrick does well to hold the ball up and slips it left. He drops deep to pick up a return but Joe Gomez beats him to it.

The referee thinks he's fouled him in the process, much to the dislike of the Liverpool fans, and awards a free-kick.

Good work from Chris Basham, who gets there ahead of Sadio Mane. He moves it on to Oliver Norwood and urges his teammates to push up.

They switch it across to the left but Liverpool have the ball back at their feet moments later as Georginio Wijnaldum wins a tussle in midfield.

Sheffield United can only launch balls forward in hope towards David McGoldrick but Vrgil van Dijk picks them off.

Trent Alexander-Arnold then links up with Mohamed Salah, who flicks it inside to Roberto Firmino, who has a shot blocked on the edge of the box.

Sadio Mane tries to dribble through a crowd in the box but Oliver Norwood gets a toe in. Andy Robertson immediately sprints back to stop a counter down the right.

It's still too easy for Liverpool. Sheffield United need to get hold of the ball.

Abe Timz: This Liverpool team is so organised and special.

Liverpool are really turning the screw now. Sheffield United are defending well but at times they are switching off and Liverpool are finding gaps. You feel if Liverpool were to score another goal before half-time, then it will be a very long night for Chris Wilder's side.

Sheffield United have had a couple of opportunities but Liverpool have been the better team. It's going to be a long night for Sheffield United, they're going to find it difficult to get up the pitch but when they have managed to, they've got in on the back four with a couple of slide balls behind the defence, but Alisson has been very alive to them.
